99 F150 XLT 4x4 4.6l xfer case????

ok guys been a while since i have been on but I am looking at a 99 F150, took it for a test drive runs fine, got back to parking lot turned switch for 4x4, high seems to lock right (no noise), low makes a bang when it engages (when put into drive, standing still) any ideas as to what this could be, (and aproximate cost for repair) before i decide whether or not to purchase

TIA

What would you expect to hear when the transfer case motor goes one more position and changes gears in the Transfer case to Low range and changes the RPM shift points?
Does it work in 4L or not?
I'm sure it's not a totally noise free 4L engagement.
Good luck.

I would expect a little noise, but not a loud bang, sounded like someone hit it with a metal bat (and that was standing still) yes does seem to work in low range just dont want to have to dump money into a vehicle that is just purchased
