Engine Service Light

[B]On a 300 mile round trip yesterday the service engine icon came on and stayed on. This happened once before last December after I bought my used 012 250 6.7. I took it back to the ford place and a mechanic cleared it on the gauges. This truck has correct oil and fluid levels. Can any one tell me how to clear? It has been 4000 miles since they changed the oil and filters an I want to go a couple more K miles before I change it myself. Thank You In advance, Jim

Engine code

You need to know what the code is. I would also record the codes and the millege. Many auto parts places will read the code for you for free. They can also clear the code. BUT it is important to know what is being reported.

I have the basic dash on my 2012 and I can not clear or read codes from it. I have Nice code reader for that purpose.

The op is referring to the service engine light,ie; oil change is due. The procedure is in your dash display. The book will also show you how to do it.

op = original poster
If I get out to my truck later I'll look up the procedure unless someone beats me to it. I know how to do it with the screen in front of me but not off by heart.

OIL LIFE
Displays the remaining oil life. An oil change is required whenever indicated by the information display and according to the recommended maintenance schedule.

USE ONLY RECOMMENDED ENGINE OILS.

To reset the oil monitoring system to 100% after each oil change, perform the following:

1. Press and release the SETUP button to display OIL LIFE XXX% HOLD RESET = NEW.

2. Press and hold the RESET button for two seconds and release to reset the oil life to 100%.

Note: To change oil life 100% value (if equipped with this feature) to another value, proceed to Step 3.

3. Once OIL LIFE SET TO XXX% is displayed, release and press the RESET button to change the Oil Life Start Value. Each release and press will reduce the value by 10%.

Might also point out that auto parts places cannot read all the codes. Just generic codes. You could have a code in memory and the auto parts places may never read it. Just FYI.
