I agree with the limiters--my '09 450 defueled at 82 prior to the delete. After deleting, no limit. Also agree that having a 10000lb truck running 90+ isn't the best situation. On the other hand, the limiter can be problematic when needing to get around traffic on a 2-lane road with a 75mph speed limit and a semi struggling to go 65, or trying to stay with traffic on I-45 heading to Houston. Moot point now, as my '09 lunched a piston recently and I am back in a '10 with all emissions intact--for the time being, until I can get the Mini installed.

  • a fine, often exceeding $500
  • some jail time
  • points on a license (usually ranging from two (2) to four (4) depending on jurisdiction
  • suspension
  • mandatory driver's education
Of course, as with all infractions, if you are a repeat offender the higher the chances of a stiffer sentence and the more possibility your charge will be increased to a felony offense. Also, with repeat offenders a judge will be less likely to agree to any type of reduced sentence. In addition, there is a hidden expense -- the higher cost of insurance once your insurance company learns that you have been convicted of excessive speeding.
And your point is?

I drive in all 48 states and Canada and I don't want 90% of the people I see driving to be on the road at any speed. Doing 95-100 where the speed limits are 85 is one thing, but there have been several fatalities here in the last year where idiots were doing 120+ where the speed limit was 45, lots of side roads, etc.

I agree. I think ford setting a limit just under 100mph is a good idea. I know that upsets some people. But it's not safe.

Ive got a 07' V-10 with a 6-speed manual.
I'm glad it has a "REV" limiter. It has kicked in a few times
while in the granny gear a few times, and I thought it was is first.
Never gone that fast to hit a speed limiter though.

Most don't realize you can go to jail and lose your drivers license for going over 100 mph. Now do you understand!

Driveshaft integrity is another factor considered in establishing speed limiting calibrations for trucks.

Every shaft has a "critical speed", at which it will begin to whip because of the dynamic characteristics of the drive train mass-elastic system.

Simply put, the speed limiter calibration setting includes max safe driveshaft speed in addition to tire safety limits.

When posted speed limits stop well short of 100mph, it doesn't matter what a survey opinion shows.

I think you will find that Ford limited speed (pickups, SRW) to what's a standard E rated OEM sized tire which is a 'Q' at 99 mph(BFG Commercial TA in 275/70x18). Then there is the 'R' at 106(most others) and the 'S' which is 112**.

As for myself, I for sure never need to see the upper part of that speed range or anything beyond 85 mph.

That being said, if someone wants to take their truck out to the track or the dunes and try to push it to 200mph, who the **** are you to tell them they can't? Your opinion doesn't mean ****, nobody has to listen to what you want.

I'm sick of all the "I sure don't want people doing _________" high and mighty crowd.
If you read my earlier post I don't have a problem with someone going fast. Just go to the track and do it. Don't endanger other peoples lives with your stupidity! Now do YOU understand.
