Look into a 1978 Lincoln Continental rear end. I think they were 5x4.5 and two or three inches narrower (tub the bed a little and put fat tires back there). Plus disc brakes with e-brake and coil springs. You can make that truck ride smooth and build a tunable suspension.

That ENGINE sure does look awesome. Can't wait to see it in the truck. Oh yeah one thing to keep in mind, you may need to get a much smaller brake booster and/or relocate to another spot on the truck. These engines are much larger (wider) than what came in these trucks originally. You may want to send turbohunter a pm. He may be able to give other pointers on things to consider in this swap. He posted in another thread a chart outlining the differences in the overall sizes of the engines that came in these trucks compared to the modular 5.4/4.6 and the 5.0 Coyote.

A hydroboost system may be a good option there, if there would be clearance issues with a vacuum booster.

I just finished one of these a few months ago in a 4wd so I may be able to offer some insight. The truck I did had no problem clearing the brake booster, I had to cut down the ac box a lot though. Also had to notch the frame rail, I think you can get a modified header though so you don't have too. For a trans, I would look into a built e4od so you can have the speedo drive. I'm not sure if the e4od was ever made with the modular bell housing though. I used a built 4r70w that seemed to fit quite well.

Update on the build waiting on my front runner drive system from vintage air to complete my engine. Once I bolt on the front runner system I will begin work on the crown vic IFS swap I pulled from a 04 police interceptor which I understand has a better setup then stock. Can anyone tell me what the real difference is between the police vs normal crown vic IFS

Correct on the shocks: "Another difference is Ford's "severe duty" shock absorbers that offer a stiffer ride than the standard Crown Victoria. "

Wikipedia has the answers! Check here:

I'll be following this closely

Hey All,
I'll definitely be following this closely. My brother and I are planning this build as well. He has a 1973 F100. Our research says we'll need:
-Used, low mileage, 5.0L Coyote Engine from truck or car (preferably the lower compression one, due to price). We figure we can beef it up later for cheaper.
-Ford Racing Parts Control Pack (PN M-6017-A504V)
-Brand new transmission due to the problems with the pcm and some security thing built in it.
-Canton'sCoyote front-sump oil pan (PN 15-738)
-We want to run A/C and power steering, so we'll have to buy those other brackets.
-Motor bracket, someone sells mounts for about $200 that can be slightly modified and welded (includes the motor mount).
-I think there might be a problem with an older radiator too. Still doing research.

I'd really like to see your grocery list of parts for your build.
Thanks for being a pioneer and sharing your journey with us.

My parts list is as follows.

Since I a m doing a crown victoria IFS swap the stock 4.6 motor mounts should work on the 5.0 coyote being that they are both modular engines. I believe the 5.0 coyote was built around the 4.6 mounting points.

Coyote 5.0 Ford Racing Crate Engine M-6007-A50SC
RADIATOR-Griffin exact fit CU-00041-
Dakota Digital VHX-73F-PU-S-B-DIM-
Fuel pump- aeromotive dual phantom 18309-
BRG-013452 column to shaft-
BRG-014955 shaft to rack-
BRG-450024 steering shaft-
M-1447-M50 5.0 EMBLEM-
M-6017-A504V FRRP harness-
Vintage Air Runner A/C drive kit-
M-8600-M50BALT 302 Alternator-
M-6P067-M50B Blue Valve Covers-
DUAL 65MM THROTTLE BODY M-9926-SCJ-
M-9424-M50CJ COBRA JET INTAKE-
NOSTALGIC AIR EVAP COIL AND CONDENSER WITH LINES-$???
CV FRONT END-
POWER STEERING RESERVOIR-
AMERICAN RACING VINTAGE FORGED WHEELS VF490-
BFG G-FORCE T/A KDW
4L80E HUGHES TRANSMISSION with coyote bell housing and computer-
polyurethane cab bushings
NPD F-14000-73a complete wiring harness
canton oil pan

Slimm9969 I have been purchasing parts the last couple months and have not began any work on my truck as of today. My biggest hurdle was I have no place to work on the truck but I am moving into a place with plenty of work space in the backyard this weekend, so you will soon start seeing photos. I also plan on posting videos on youtube. Thanks good luck on your build

Quick update for the FTE members following my build.

I have spent much of the summer purchasing parts and breaking the bank and looking forward to enjoying some cooler weather in Florida lucky for me the timing seems to be favorable as the we are entering fall so the humidity and heat should start to simmer down

I will itemized every thing so far purchased:

Aeromotive dual phantom fuel pump
FRRP ECM control pack
vintage air front runner drive system
5.0 FRRP crate engine
4L80E hughes performance extreme duty street/strip tranny combo
1978 bronco 25.5 gas tank
american auto complete wiring kit
I have purchased other odds and ends to complete the project you can see my entire parts list above

My plans are to custom mount the bronco gas tank to increase fuel capacity from 19 gallons to 25.5 as I have seen photos of the 38 gallon for the f100 and don't like that it is visible under the bumper.

I will be posting photos as I build and some of the most significant parts installed. I have decided to remove the body from the frame, since I do not plan to do any work on the body as little is needed.
