parking brake lock repair anyone

The locking mechanism on my 1951 parking brake does not work, so when you pull the lever and release it it does not stay locked on. It looks like there is a spring on the locking pawl which I assume is junk. Has anyone repaired one of these? Maybe something is missing? May have to get another one, I have to have a good parking brake with the standard transmission.

Maybe this will help, picture of my ebrake lever on my '52.
I will not be using it at all so if you need it I may be able to remove it and send it. Let me know.

I am going to route the cable straight down through the floor, rather not go under the trans cover like stock.

Thanks, that looks like what I need, the ends are rotted off my spring, I only see the center part of it. The pin the spring is mounted to is a rivet, so I assume I would weld the pin back in place.

If that ebrake handle works then I am am interested in buying it as well, both my trucks need handles and truck #1s handle is in really rough shape. I just need one that the locking pawl works and it doesnt move unless the handle is squeezed to release the pawl.

Doesn't the cable run thru the firewall at the plates around the column on '51's? It does on 52's, I thought the change was made for '51.

Maybe it did, I honestly don't remember how it was set up. Not going through the floor there anymore though.

I had to replace the spring on mine last year. You could weld the pin back in place. I replaced mine with a bolt.

emergency brake handle sharing

On my 50 F-3 the emergency brake cable wore a hole through the gas line where the brake cable crosses under the gas line on the firewall. When I bought it, it ran poorly. I suppose that is why it got parked. I found it during the restoration. A hole there is very hard to see but could be worth while checking out it your v-8 barely runs.
My emergency brake handle assembly was rusted tight but i got it loose eventually and it works as designed now. Just sharing a few thoughts. Patrick

I'm also having issues with mine. It doesn't lock when I pull up the handle. I may try replacing the spring like mentioned above.

Mine will work if I manually move the locking pawl, so if yours is the same the spring should do the trick. I will order mine when I have a few more parts to order, I hate paying more in shipping than the actual part!

Gotcha. I'm having some issues with the locking pawl not catching as well. Looks like an original spring too.

The entire assembly just popped up on eBay. I can't tell about how well it works but the starting bid is only $20. if you can get it for close to that it might be worth the risk.

Edited 7-23-15: I asked for a better picture of the teeth and the lister added that to the listing. They look OK.
