Lets talk about parts.

I have a 1954 f100 that I'm turning into a burnout machine. Just picked up a 5.0 V8 out of a mustang and now it's time to research the rest of the parts i need, IFS, Rear end, Trans, brakes, etc. I know alot of you use Crown Vic front ends and Explorer rear ends but I'm wondering.... what exact years are best and why?

So, What year Vic should i hunt for?
What years for the Explorer rear end? or another alternative?
any suggestions for a good manual trans?

thanks in advance!

You might check out the "48-60 Tips, Tricks, HowTo's" sticky at the top of the forum, although a google search of this forum will likely be quicker.

Here is the sticky article on rear axles:

Tranny choice is going to depend a lot on what year your engine is and cpu you plan on using.

T5 would be the easiest choice for a trans.
95+ for the explorer axle as they came with disc.

T5 won't work with many of the later mod motors, Ford used it's own unique variant, the 3650 in most Mustangs.
