Worth a Transmision Pan Upgrade?
well I been wanting to change my trans fluid and filter on my 99 e350 7.3 turbo with a auto 4r100. only problem is I have one with out a drain plug in the pan. next month I am going to have the trans serviced and was wondering if I should get a Moroso 42050 Transmission Pan for Ford E40D/4R100. that way it will not only be where I can service it myself, it will help keep trans cooler.
Thanks in Advance, Alice

Ford should or might have an updated trans pan that includes a drain plug, should be considerably cheaper than the Moroso version. Keep in mind Moroso stuff is more related to racing situations than street or towing applications, the price showing that. Try this as an example:
That pan won't really give you significant extra cooling so the cost isn't worth it from that aspect. It would also require another type internal filter due it being deeper than the stock pan.
Assuming the factory cooling path is clear and operating as designed it should be more than sufficient for most daily driving and towing uses. Ford also makes an auxiliary cooler that can be added easily enough, assuming you're up on such retro-fitting. Here's Mark Kovolsky's opinion on auxiliary coolers: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ns-cooler.html
Another thought is "if it ain't broke, don't fix it.............". BTW you could also ask this same question in the Transmission Forum, hopefully Mark Kovolsky, our resident former Ford transmission engineer, will give some sage advice.

However I added my own drain plug using a few aftermarket components, the cost and aggravation installing them probably a bit more than a replacement pan. My motivation was using and older and in theory slightly better/thicker pan plus knowing my drain system was top notch in quality. It should be noted more often than not I'm one to use overkill as part of such things.

I built a set of ramps for my 99 F250 but used 3/4" plywood and 2x8's (treated) and in two sections (24" long box and a 30" long ramp) Yours needs a stop in the front to avoid "over shootin the runway" Nobody makes ramps that can handle the weight the diesels have up front.
