1948 continued
I just purchased a 1948 Ford F1. It was sold to me as an original truck, not restored, with approx 75,000 miles.
The model or vin number is 87HCxxxxxx. That tells me it should be a six cylinder. It is actually a V-8.
The part numbers on the heads are EAB 6049 D abd EAB 6050 D. That tells me it is a 1953 engine.
Can someone confirm my finding.
thanks, Jack

The FIRST question...Did you verify THAT Serial number on the frame? (Passenger side frame rail near motor mount)
Is the battery on the driver's side (6 cylinder) or passenger side (V8)?
Regarding the numbers on the heads, that verifies that the HEADS are 1953, does not guarantee that the rest of the motor is a 53. If you want to verify the block, check the build code, it is stamped next to the rear corner of the intake on the passenger side.

Here is how to post pic's on FTE
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ure-guide.html
Here is one way by "Axracer"
Do you have digital pix of your truck from digital camera or phone on your computer?
If so it is easy to add them to a post (assuming the file is not too large). Find the
pic on your computer and leave it open while you come here in another window. Compose
a post, click where you want the pic to appear in the post. Click on the picture icon
at the top of the posting box (looks like a postcard with mountains and sun) A dialog
box will open asking if you want to drag a pic onto the box or browse your computer to
find it. If you have the pic open, go there, right click anywhere on the pic and chose
copy from the menu. Come back to your post and right click on the box. Select paste from
the menu. Your picture should appear (it may take a few seconds to load) in the box. Now
left click on the insert button.
If the stars all aligned your picture should now be in your post window. Select post to
have it appear on the forum or repeat to add more pix. Some cameras make huge files these
days that are larger than the forum limits. You may need to resize or resample the picture
and save the smaller file version with whatever picture editing software came with your
picture taking device before you can post it.
If you are a supporter than just right click on an image from anywhere like Facebook
or whatever. Than left click in your post and paste it in. So simple even a monkey
could do it.
Oh! and welcome to FTE and the old truck madness.

Thx. Yes the frame and the glove box info agree. The frame #appears to have an * at the beginning.
The battery is on the passenger side.

That's good, anytime we see a truck that doesn't match the serial number like that, we try to encourage the buyer/new owner to make sure the numbers and paperwork are in order. Years ago there wasn't such a hassle getting titles, but most states are being a lot more stringent. Just hate to hear of somebody buying a truck and finding out later that the paperwork doesn't match or the titles are bogus.

I am not sure what I will do. I took a chance, did not do my usual due diligence and trusted the seller. It has been 25 day and still no title. lots of lies and broken promises, he misrepresented the truck in many ways, said he had the title when in fact does not, mileage, condition and more.
I bought it via ebay auto and they say they will do something.
if i understand correctly mistating mileage is a big problem for him.
so it depends on the condition of the engine and if I get the title.
I may let ebay take it back or may keep it and ask for finance consideration because of the false mileage statement.
