Hey AZ, I did exactly what you just did. Finding a replacement will cost you very big bucks. I allowed myself to be bent over and got a new one and modded it according to Rosewood Diesel, Jim posted above. Good Luck!

Well shoot... Hmmm I may just glue it in or something because just the little gauge thingy inside busted. Thought a new one would be like $60. I guess I could go without a float... Don't really like that idea though.

I searched and searched and being a discontinued sending unit the ones left are outrageous! I tried one out of a old Ford pickup that had these 38 gallon tanks in and it didn't work. It was a lot of work just to find out it didn't work.

Couldn't splice in the wiring harness? I got mine put back together I used a chemical resistant epoxy worst case is my gauge doesn't work. No way I'm spending $200 on one. And all the old ones sitting in junk yards are junk like this one.

The wiring harness plugged right up, I don't know why it wouldn't work? You found another for $200?

I have wanted to put a 38 gallon rear in for ages...This thread may have kicked me in the pants! My biggest question does this interfere with air bags by any means?

What broke, exactly? The float (the little brass barrel), the arm (L-shaped wire), or the sending unit (variable resistor)? The float just snaps onto the arm, and is replaceable. Gotta be careful where you source it, though. I replaced the front one in our blue '95 just a couple months ago, and it's already failing. I *THINK* I got it from Jegs, but would have to check my receipts before I diss them.

I couldn't say for sure but I can't see why it would. Basically add 7"'s to the bottom of your tank.

Good to know. How are you guys extending your pickup with the additional depth added?

I used steel fuel line and compression fittings. The float I extended with a steel coat hanger.

In respect to air bags if you have the over spring ones no worries, inboard ones I wouldn't think so. In fact I like my air bags even more especially with the added weight behind the axle.

Running a 4" (or larger diameter) exhaust in stock location with mine I had to trim the passenger side tank tank guard at the forward corner so it wouldn't touch exhaust. Fitment is snug but there was room.

I had the resistor break on me, damn think was brittle and broke just opening the case. I epoxied it back in. We'll see if it works, worst case is that my gauge wint work until I'm around 60% left in the tank. Still need to bend up a new float, and I'm trying to figure out what size compression fitting you guys may have used. 3/8 is to big but 1/4 is to small.

I was really wanting to have this done asap but then we had a critical piece of equipment at work break yesterday and my 8-9 hour day turned into a 16 hour day.

Fuel lines are generally 3/8" supply, 5/16" return. What compression fittings are you referring to? Oh, the extensions to the pickup/return inside the tank?
