Any way to get these semi batteries to fit?

Saw these at the local Freightliner/Western Star shop while there on unrelated business - anyone know if these things will fit or can be made to fit in our trucks and still get the hood to close over them? (Pictures are clickable.)

They seem to be cheaper than the usual auto store units while also being higher capacity.

I have not attempted this myself yet. I have been rolling it around in the back of my head though because I can get a hold of them through my company pretty cheap. My co worker cut the brace on his hood to accommodate them on his 99 F250.

I think I would rather try to lower the battery box pedestal than butchering my hood though.

Can you get one of those empty shell 'shelf unit' demo batteries through your company? It might be worth getting to work out what would need to be done.

I can not at the moment. I'm out on business for a few months. I wont get back home for awhile. I will do a little looking into it though. I think the batteries will have to be flipped sideways.

On the 99 the only thing that did not clear was the posts on the battery. I would think dropping the pedestal an inch may be enough to clear on our trucks.

For the mount I would run simple design. Take a piece of all thread and run it up from the pedestal. Set the battery in between the all thread, and slide the bar stock over the all thread and bolt in.

yes they will fit, but you will have to mount them in a box in the bed, or reconfigure your underhood battery tray.

You could relocate the batteries to the passenger side frame rail between the frame and bedside right behind the cab like Darin did. Frees up a lot of space under the hood too for other goodies

What's the warranty on them? I can get 875CCA group 65 batteries (only 50CCA less than the above) for about that price any day of the week at our local "man-mall" (Blain's Farm & Fleet). Made by Johnson Controls, drop-in correct size, 7-year pro-rata warranty, 3-year FREE replacement with a toll-free support number.

funny you say that. I've had a set in my old ford diesel. Worked great for 8 years. I also have a set in my allis tractor. They've been in there for 6 years now, that tractor will sit for months without being looked at but it ALWAYS fires up. I have never taken a second look at the batteries in it.

I'm less interested in the specific brand of battery and more interested in this common 'big truck' size.
