Toyo MT / AT2 / Nitto Trail Grappler????
Hey fellas,
I've looked at threads that Google brings up and looking for more recent experience.
On my 05 with the HD wheels I'm looking at 285 75 18's
They all are 10 ply, the at2 are about 34.6 or so while the others spec a 1/2" taller.
I like the look of the MT best.
I like the price and feel the at2 is probably the "best" all around tire. But it's just not quite as aggressive looking.
That gives us the Nitto Trail Grappler. Kind of a compromise.
Locally the MT out the door are $1900
The at2 are $1500
The Nitto are $1427
Online I probably could save 150 bucks but I'd rather pay at the local store and get better service in the long run.
I have X codes / modded B springs so clearance shouldn't be an issue and if it is I'll lift it more.

Depends what kind of roads you're on- there's a lot of dirt roads in Nevada, so I chose the Toyo MTs (plus I agree they look cool).
But they do wear faster and are louder than the ATs. Plus now the ATs have a 65k mile wear guarantee! So they're my next tires.
Have not used or heard much about the Nittos.

I have Trails at 35/12.50R18.
When I replace them, I will most likely be getting either the Dura Grapplers, or the Terra Grappler G2s all in the same'ish size (35/12.50R18 or 305/70R18).

I would go with the Toyo AT2, thatll likely be my next tire. I love my toyo MTs, but i really have no use for them. Not that loud, and im at about 35k and still have at least 10k left in them.
I will never buy the nitto trail grapplers, my buddy has them in 35x12.5x20s with like 15k on them and i have more tread. I did pick up some terra grapplers for really cheap for winter tires so i will see how those do, i prefer the at2 still

Look at the Destination M/T by Firestone. They make them in a 35". It's very similar to the Toyo M/T and the prices isn't that bad. I think I was <$1200 out the door when I did mine.
I had the Terra Grapplers on my Excursion and I would never run those ever again. I had a belt failure on the drivers tire and that was a scary experience. Plus they suck off-road rather badly. Especially wet grass.

I run the Duras in 305/70R18E (35.28 X 12.80) and really like them for my use. My EX gets parked for the Winter, so it doesn't get driven in the snow and it does not go off road at all, only occasional dirt or gravel roads. it's a highway towing rig so these highway rib tires are a perfect match for it. They are wearing great so far, handle great unloaded and pulling heavy (rear axle weight is 6400lbs +/- while towing) and are the quietest truck tire I have ever owned.
They don't look quite as mean or cool as most of the MT and AT tires out there but they are serving us well.

Tom do you think that size would fly with only X codes? I know you've got some extra height on me.

I do get a little rub on the spring behind the axle at full steering lock with these on '04 Lariat rims, I don't know if a slightly lower ride height would help or hurt that situation. I don't have any other contact with anything though, just clears the inner fender liner and lower front dam.
