What are your EGTs tuned and untuned??

For stock trucks Question when in regen. Is it better to keep EGTs higher or try and keep them lower when in regen? When in regen mine goes anywhere from 700-1250. When not in regen truck seems to go from 400-650 EGTs depending if towing or on a grade. For the trucks that are tuned what are your EGTs?? Think I'm getting close to deleting DPF. I got a delete pipe from friend so only need the tuner. Love my truck, just hit 37k today. Getting sick of the regen though. I can usually complete before I get to where I'm going but just don't like the system and don't like all the heat in the turbo. Another question is with the erg. I read one tuner actually will still cycle it when tuned. Does anyone have anymore on that? . I would rather leave mine on. I helped my friend remove his and it was a PITA. I think I broke a rib removing it...

My truck has an H&S tuner and normally run it on the tow tune. I just highway cruising I normally see about 500-600. But towing it'll go up to 1000-1100 on hills.

As for removing EGR coolers, my truck doesn't have them. But the H&S shuts it all off if you select emissions equipment removed option. That's what I am told. But, the "Easy" tunes don't work in my truck. I get a host of EGR codes. So I go up to the "Mild" tuning and it's good to go. Not sure, but from what I'm told they goofed on the tuning and forgot to shut the EGR off in the Easy tunes on mine.

Best advice on the EGR tuning is to ask the person/company doing the tuning. I know with a Spartan that the 210 setting will cycle the EGR at idle, just to make it work from time to time and not get stuck. On the tunes higher than that, the EGR is completely shut off. There are stories on here about guys running tuned with EGR turned off for a while and then later go back to stock or a tune that cycles the EGR, and they get codes because the valve is stuck. Every tuner is a little different so best to check with them.

As for EGT's there are a ton of variables. How much are you towing? How steep is the grade? How long is the grade? How aggressive of a tune are you running? you get the idea. Best thing to do is get a tuner that lets you monitor EGT's and when they start to climb just back off a little.

Empty on the HWY i run around 650-750 EGT running 75 which with 4.30 gears I'm around 2300-2400 rpm

Prior to upgrading the turbos Towing at a 33,000 GVW which is about 8,000 more then any 5th wheel trailer truck combo, I am running around 750-850 on the flats, when i get into the grades i can saw 1350 pretty easy, the spartan tuning will take you to 1420 before it defuels then it cuts you back to 1150 tell it cools. I have pulled grades 7% for 19 miles with a sustained EGT of 1320 with no issue but EGT is not the only temp you have to worried about, you have to look at ECT,EGT and EOT combined together to get as clear picture of whats going on. A 1350 EGT with a EOT over 235 and water temps over 225 can result in damaged pistons if the engine and pistons get heat soaked. With being said i have made a bunch of 1/4 miles passes with my truck and hit 1600-1800 EGT with no issue simply because the heat was only for seconds vs the heat you see pulling a long grade 30-45 minutes.

After i upgraded the turbos its extremely hard to get the EGT's over 1250 pulling the same 7% 19 mile grade. on the flats with 33,000 i only run about 650 EGT. The turbos make a huge difference. Just changing the atmosphere turbo is probably the biggest performance upgrade i have done to the truck, changing the HP turbo helped the top end but still not as much as changing the LP turbo. The 210 spartan tune to pretty clean but you still get a little smoke when your in it, with the bigger turbos the 210 tune burns clean zero smoke, running as high as the 275 tune the tune is almost completely clean comparable to the 210 tun before the turbo upgrade.
