Medium Dark Fire Red?

My painter called me this morning to look at some paint swatches. Apparently, I was mistaken when I thought the exterior color was Bright Canyon Red. I assumed it was that shade because it is too bright to be the Dark Canyon Red, which is the only other shade of red listed in 1985 brochure.

Since my vehicle certification label is missing from the door jamb, we didn't have access to the paint code. He matched up the paint in the inside of the cab and came up Ford Medium Dark Fire Red, paint code 51. It's an exact match. He found the paint code in some other Ford books. Apparently, Medium Dark Fire Red was a color option from 1984 - 1987. I did an internet search, and I can't find a single F-Series or Bronco in that shade. However, I found LOTS of vehicles with both shades of Canyon Red. So it must be somewhat rare.

Why would Ford paint it this shade, when it isn't listed in the sales brochure for that year?

Don't know why Ford would did it . But if it's the color , paint it and show some
pictures of it. I know it will look good.

Ford printed several different editions of sales brochures. What printing date does your sales brochure have? This could have been a 'springtime introduction color.'

51 = Medium Fire Red, not Medium Dark Fire Red.

Exclamation

All I know is..That's what the book said at the Body Shop Supply store when I wanted some touch-up paint mixed. Tower Paint also calls it that. Just my experience..

Who painted the trucks originally, FoMoCo or body shops? FoMoCo.

1980/89 Ford Truck Parts Catalog sez: 51 = Medium Fire Red

Beginning in 1981, even though all FoMoCo vehicles were painted with acrylic enamel, FoMoCo used acrylic lacquer for touch up paint. AL81: AL = Acrylic Lacquer; 81 = 1981.

I figured from the get-go that you were gonna chime in with this razz-ma-tazz, so I looked in two other catalogs. 1984 and 1986 on microfiche, both list the same info.

The hipoparts.com C/D that some of y'all and I have...that the pic came from, was scanned from the final 3/1994 loose leaf paper edition.

Just winding you up, Bill. Just jerking your chain.

(When do you leave, and is Mr. clean still going?)

Dunno about Mr. Clean, haven't heard from him recently, but I assume so. We may take a different cruise, cuz I found one in August that's cheaper. When one is treating, one likes to save some buckaroo's.

Gary: I have the P/M feature turned off, so I couldn't respond to your P/M

Yes, I'm aware...as I spoke with Mr. Clean yesterday afternoon on the 'Ameche.'
