Squealing/squeaky brakes

My brakes are doing a lot of squealing and squeaking lately, seems to get worse as they are used in city stop and go driving,
they are stopping properly with no pulling to one side or the other.
My brakes are the original drums and the wheels are 17'' split rims (widow makers)
I am going to start pulling the wheels and drums to see if I see any thing out of the ordinary.
What should I be looking for?.....any ideas?

Many times noisy brakes are a sign of being worn out, with metal to metal contact making the noise. If you pull your drums and find the lining material worn down to minimal levels, or less, I'd say you found the problem.

Sometimes just hosing the shoes down to get rid of accumulated brake dust will make a difference. I'd sure be nervous pulling those WM's, myself.
