Alternator belt replacement questions
Hi everyone, I'm new here.
On my 1982 F-150, I am replacing all the belts as they are glazed and cracking. I have 2/4 of the belts removed easily. However, I hit a snag with the belt that turns the alternator off of the crank.
I need to get tension off of the belt by pivoting the alternator. There is a bolt that is visible from the top of the engine that holds the bracket to the block which holds the alternator.
There is a bolt that is visible only from the bottom that holds the alternator to the bracket by running thru the alternator housing. This bolt (If loosened) can allow the alternator to pivot in the bracket to get tension off of the belt.
I'm not sure if I should loosen the top bolt, and pivot the alternator and bracket as one, or loosen the bottom bolt which runs thru the alternator to pivot it within the bracket.
Both bolts are stuck, and i am afraid of exerting a lot of force on them for fear of breaking them. Are they both standard thread (right tight, left loose?)
Any input is appreciated.
Thank you.

There are two bolts which secure the alternator. The one in the slot holds it in the desired place for proper belt tension... opposite that bolt is another one which is the pivot point. Both need to be loosened just a little [not taken out]. Both loosen by turning CCW [leftie loosie and rightie tightie].
