Damper & Pulley replacement '59 292 Y-block
Pulley seperated from balancer
Balancer and pulley
As pics show the pulley has separated from the damper as the rubber between has failed .The engine is a 292 y-block from'59. It's installed in a 64 Ford F100 with a 3 speed trans. I'm not trying to do a restoration just want a set up that works. The belt from the pulley drives the water pump and a non-alternator. Where can I get an new damper pulley assembly? Or is there a substitute that would be more cost effective? Do I need special tools to remove and reinstall? Do I have to pull the radiator to do the job?
Thanks in advance for your help

Hey Red, Welcome to FTE
Nope, the whole thing needs replaced. Or, send off the original to be restored. There are a couple firms that do this. Damper Doctor and Damper Dudes. No idea on whether either are any better or any good. Maybe they have some built up, but I bet they want a core.
Best to take the radiator out for removal and installation of damper. A puller is handy, and some kind of installation tool. A long bolt and stack of washers will work. The idea is, avoid pounding on the crankshaft with a BFH. Press on only.
There is a new manufacture damper available for the Y block, precision CNC machined out of Australia. Check on eBay for this, or the Mummert website. About $250 bucks, nicely made. Nobody else makes them afaik.

I think it would mainly be a matter of price, or convenience/time turnaround maybe. Assuming yours is a 292 motor, and single pulley (no power steering) then there aren't any show stoppers afaik.
Here's an eBay link to new manufacture dampers:

Tedster9 thanks for the help. I was lucky is let go on a very short trip around the block. I'm not 100% sure what the swapped out engine in the truck is from other than it's a '59. Would sending it to a reman place be better because I am more likely to get the a part back that fits because they have the original or do I go with new?
I had the damper from my 60 292 rebuilt by the Damper Doctor in Redding Ca.
DamperDoctor
He was pretty fast and I don't remember it costing very much (, $150 or less with shipping etc)
You get your old one back with the seal surface sleeved, new rubber and all painted up like new.
(I never did use mine though. PM me if you want it)
I ended up getting a double sheave damper so I could install A/C and PS etc.... (it's in good shape but I'll probably have to send that one to the Doctor too ! )
Cheers,
Rick
