1979 Front Fuel Filler and Vapor Hose

I have a 1979 F150 4x4. This still has the factory plastic front fuel tank in in. I am looking for a new fuel fillter and vapor hose (rubber portion) for this truck. LMC doesen't offer one for the 1979 but all other rears as the 79 I believe was the only year for the plastic tank. The one have had to be cut off and now I can't find one. Anyone has some suggestions?

I have a plastic front tank in my 1978 F150 4x4, so it isn't just the '79. I think all the 4x4 F-series with front tanks were plastic. Look at Dennis Carpenter, JBG, Ebay, Amazon, and many others places online. I am pretty sure the LMC does have them as well. They usually sell them together at around $50. Dennis Carpenter is usually where I buy replacement OEM parts, they fit much better when made with the factory tools.

http://dennis-carpenter.com/fuel-tan...p/D5TZ-9047-D/ I know it says '78 but it will fit '79.

Thanks for the reply but there is something defiantly different for the fuel fill hose for my 79 plastic front fuel cell. The one I see in LMC and the link to Dennis Carpenter have only one bend in it where the one I have is shorter and had two bends in it. Attached is a picture. I have an extra one from another trucks front tank just like the one you mentioned but that will not work. Any other thoughts?

I have checked with them and they are looking into it after I send them a few pictures of what I have. They offered to make one using the existing one as a template but for $90. I can't afford to spend $90 on custom made one. I obviously have the old one but I put a cut on the top side in order to get it off when I took everything apart.....little did I know I couldn't get another one. I might just have to reuse it somehow.

So the tube was stuck to the filler neck huh? Yea I always use a flat tip to break it loose, now i tell ya sorry.m

Maybe you can RTV it on the outside, put a rubber patch on it, then hose clamp it right over the cut? As long as the cut does not extend way down from the end. Make sense?

The only 'filter' associated with mid-ship & aft axle fuel tanks, slips onto the end of the sending unit's pickup tube.

Introduced in 1971, used thru 1979, could be retrofitted to 1957/70 FoMoCo vehicles (not used with in-cab fuel tank senders). Maverick/Comet/Pinto/Bobcat used a 5/16" I.D. screen.

D1AZ-9A011-A .. Plastic Mesh Filter Screen - 3/8" I.D. / Available from Ford, repro parts sellers, auto parts stores.

The Ford MSRP for this screen is $61.20! But Carpenter sells the same one for about 8 bucks.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The D5TZ-9047-D filler hose referenced in post 2 was only used on some 1975/78 F100/350 mid-ship tanks without the Evaporative Emission (Evap/Em) System. It wasn't used on any 1979!

According to the 1973/79 Ford truck parts catalog, all 1979 F100/350's came with Evap/Em, so the filler hoses for the mid-ship and aft axle tanks are different.

Sorry my phone played a trick on me. I am looking for the rubber fuel filler and vapor hose for the front tank. All the ones I find for a front tank only have one bend in it. The one I have from the 79 F150 4x4 has two bends. I have both kinds for the two different front tanks so I know the one bend hose one does not work. I had to cut the two bend one off....dumb move done over 2 years ago. Now I am stuck

Mid-ship aka front tank / Aft-axle aka rear tank.

D7TZ-9047-A .. Mid-Ship Tank Fuel Filler Hose - Use with 4WD & Evap/Em / Obsolete

1977 F250 4WD from serial number Y20,001 (not a High Boy) / 1978 F250 4WD Regular & Crew Cab Styleside pickups / 1978/79 F150/250 4WD Regular Cab Styleside pickups.

No Ford dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any. I don't know if it has been reproduced.

My 78 has a metal side tank so they weren't all plastic, just fyi.

Why does this truck need special bends? Do the plastic tanks have a different location for the inlet? On mine, I ordered the fuel filler neck kits from BG which comes with one big and one small hose in each, and the lines are all straight. Fit perfectly on side and rear tanks even with my 2" body lift.

** After looking at BG, maybe my side tank did use one bend. It sure seems like they were both straight though. Either way, I didn't have to do anything special.

I believe the plastic tanks have a different location for the fill neck as far as I can tell due to the different filler neck that I took off the truck and from other feedback from NumberDummy in this posting.

You found the metal portion of the fuel filler for the front tank. That is the portion that you place the gas pump nozzle. I need the rubber part that connects that parts to the filler neck on the fuel tank. I am going to use a portion of the part I didn't cut and a portion from another single bend front tank rubber fuel neck from a 2WD. I will splice this two together with a 2 1/4" fuel joiner coupling. This should work and get me on the road.

Ok .. Yep that sounds like a good solution ..
