1988 F350 Towing Information

Hello everyone, I hope this is in the correct forum. I have a 1988 F350 Dually that I am working on and enjoying. Small things left at this point as far as working on the truck goes. I am considering purchasing a 5th wheel toy hauler and having a hard time figuring out the correct weights. Seems that I am fairly restricted overall and not able to play with the big boys on the trailers even with having a beast of a truck. The truck stats are as follows. I have not hit the scales dry, but will soon to get my total weight and distribution, will update this thread when I do.

1988 F350, Crew Cab, 2WD, Long Bed, Dually, 4.10 rear, C6 trans, 460 gasser, 2975 springs, and CA legal exhaust. I have not mounted the 5th wheel hitch yet, but hoping to.

My questions are as follows. Max overall weight of trailer? I have not been able to find much concerning this, not sure what the limit is.

Max pin weight? I plan on purchasing a 20k fixed 5th wheel hitch, my bed is 8ft long and expect it will handle fine without a slider.

I have been looking at modern toy haulers and they are all over the place for weights and not sure what fits and doesn't. Of course dealers will tell you anything to put you in a new trailer.

Anything I am missing?

Do you have an owners manual for the truck? I have a '90 manual that says your powertrain combo has a GCWR of 18.5k, so get a curb weight for your truck when it's ready to travel(loaded with fuel, people, supplies, etc) subtract that number from 18.5k and that is how much trailer you can legally tow. I'd take a stab at it and say you will probably end up in the 10-11k range for the trailer.

Owners manual

No, unfortunately no owners manual. I will be hitting the scale next time I am at the gas station. I would imagine you are pretty close with that number, I am curious though of all the people that talk about how much they used to tow with their trucks, I am guessing they were over the gross weight rating. Not sure it is worth the risk, I have experience towing large bumper pull trailers but never towed a 5er.
