I Have a ford f150 4x4 5 speed manul trans the engine is bad a 4.2 v 6 is it possable to swap in a little bigger engine i have heard ford had lot probs out of this engine maby another v 6 or very small v8 please help with info how to or where find info its a very good truck worth a swap

 

The 4.2 shares a belhousing bolt pattern with the old 5.0 and 5.8 V8s but those aren't real common in OBD2 trim and even if you did find one you need to consider if the matching engine/trans PCM exists to control your franken combo.

 

ty so much i need all info i can get i like this truck and would love prepair a different engine for it im not interested in lot power just durability i have heard ford had lot probs with the 4.2 so im trying find something else that might work in it as the engine is bad now anyway

 

Nothing really wrong with the 4.2 but it can develop problems at high milage like many engines(gasket leaks, etc), so I'd suggest you just find another one with low milage and bolt it in. Least amount of headaches. You could also swap in a V8 but the easiest will be one from the same vintage truck but you would want a complete donor truck on hand to pull parts from as you will need the whole powertrain, driveshafts, wiring, computer, etc. Pretty big job.
