New to me truck, want to run WVO/diesel mix
I recently bought a 1992 f350 diesel 4x2 crew cab to use as a work truck. It has 125,000 miles on it and I have averaged 14 mpg mixed city/highway driving. I would like to start running a WVO/diesel mix in one of my tanks. I was thinking of startup and shutdown on diesel and run the unheated mix 50/50 or hopefully 75/25 WVO/diesel the rest of the time. I live in CA an overnight lows here are usually about 50, 40 at the lowest. Is this reasonable for me to do or do I need to heat? If heat is a must what is the best way? Also, probably conversely, what is the cheapest way? I have been reading as much as I can about filtering, ratios, and such but I thought I would just post up what I was thinking and see what everyone thinks. Thanks in advance -

Should work, just run it more diluted as it gets colder. You can buy 20 micron "socks" to catch the big chunks. After that I plan on running it thru a 10 micron spin on filter set up. I have the parts, just haven't got it together yet.
With only 2WD you should be getting better mileage. I get 16-17 in a super cab 4x4, 5 spd w/ 4.10 gears, and 20-21mpg in the same set up with 3.55 gears. If you have an auto trans - that will hurt your #'s.

I do have the auto trans. How much better would a 5spd out of an '89 be? I have the opportunity to buy a parts truck with the manual, so if it is much better then a swap could make sense. I am currently filtering through a funnel screen, then a 10 micron whole house water filter, and lastly a 1 micron whole house water filter.

I would think 3-5mpg, depending on how you drive. I am easy off the line and rarely go over 65mph. I think I am going fast off the line, but it is only because I spend most of my time pulling 80K lbs in an 18 wheeler. If you drive a lot of stop and go, not as much of an increase. I am pretty rural and town is 40 miles away. In that 40 miles I only have 1 Stop sign.
You won't have any problems with that filtering process.
