Emergency Brake

I have a 2001 E350 van with the miniature emergency brake warning light in the far bottom corner of the instrument panel. The brake is not that effective and I drove about 15 miles with the thing on - enough to get things pretty hot but no smoke. Can this affect the bearings and rear end lube enough to worry about? Should the rear end lube be changed?
