1957 f 100 or f 250?

Hey
I found the VIN on my truck,it matches the title. Its a 1957 f 100, 2 wheel drive, according to the vin. But it has 8 bolt wheels,floating axle rear end,and the second set of over load leaf springs. There is a badge on the hood that says f 100. I'm replacing all the drive train so its not a big deal but was wondering if you guys had seen anything like that. Until I found the frame number I thought I might have the wrong title for the truck. thanks for any info. Mike

Makes you wish you could hear the stories of your truck's life over the last 50+ years.

First 3 digits of the VIN is the series code. F10 = F100 / F25 = F250.

All 1957/58's are 2WD, because factory installed 4WD wasn't introduced until 1959.

But, in 1959/60, the series code does not decode to 2WD or 4WD .. all it decodes to is F100 or F250. The MODEL code stamped on the Warranty Plate defines 2WD from 4WD

I didn't know there were no 4 wheel drives in 57, the vin is F10K7K (I didn't mean to imply the vin showed it was 2 wheel drive,I worded that poorly.) Maybe someone swapped the 8 bolt axles in at some point. Strange,Thanks for the info Mike

F10 = F100.

K = 272 2V

7 = 1957.

K = Kansas City MO Assembly Plant.

XXXXX = 1957 Numerical Sequence of Assembly, the trucks specific serial number.
