Flags flown from Trucks

I wanted to ask this here since I am not getting much hit in the sub forum for my truck.

I had already planned on installing a roll bar and wanted to fly a flag from each side of the verticle posts of the roll bar.

My only question is about flag sizing?

I am sure the one flag I found for $195 would not be too big at 42"x46". But I am concerned if the other flag I found that is 3'x5' would be too big for what I am wanting.

Does anyone here have any recommendations on sizing for different trucks to not end up with something too big?

The Flags are similar size..

42" X 46" versus 36"X 50"

You can see it is 6" shorter and 4" Longer so It won't be to big

Hope that helps

nope. 3X5 would be 36X60
so 6 inches smaller in height, but 14 inches longer

Ah ok,only thing though is with a flareside truck the bed is 6ft long, means the flag if I go with the 3x5 would be all the way to the back of the truck. Height wouldn't hopefully be a problem but the length I don't know.

Never done this before and I have seen people fly flags from their trucks but usually the are smaller or in this one case of this guy that keeps the cemetery clean he has a large cloth flag attached to his front fender where his antenna would be that blows across his truck.

Im still looking at flags, I might end up going with this one I found but I am currently trying to find out something more correct to fit in line with the 42x46 smaller flag.

Ok, I can understand that, for length though should it be shorter than the bed of the truck or the same length or what?

I haven't made any purchases yet as I don't want to be making multiple purchases to find by trial and error like to get as close as possible from the start.

I don't know, are we talking parades or racing down the highway?

Racing down the highway kind of flags. Not parade, but flags that would be left on the truck while the truck was driven daily.

Then IMO that's best done with a decal not an actual flag. There's no way I'd try to daily a pickup with 2 6' long flags.

You'll need very strong poles and a large fuel tank.

I'm assuming American flag, out of respect for the flag I'd be cautious of the mounting. That is not placing them directly behind the cab. Air flow behind the cab will push the flag down into the bed. In order to not drag the flag on the floor of the bed or have it beat itself against the bed rails I'd mount it above the cab. In which case the size is in part determined by the pole. It can't be any longer then the distance from the base of the mounting to the top of the bed rail.

I might not do this as the company I ordered the two flags from wont return my emails requesting an update as I have not gotten any status update since the original order confirmation. I am close to cancling the order.

But in any case these wouldn't be left on the truck 24/7 I was going to make mounts that strap to the roll bar vertical poles and the flag pole itself would slide into and lock via a clip. Wouldn't be kept on all the time just put on in good weather or special occasions. As far as the location it would have been on the sides of the bed directly behind the roll bar. Basically on the inside of the bed rails.
