FTE resonator installed drone gone

installed fte resonator today . drone gone .have msrb 4" exhaust had bad drone
at 1700-2000 rpm even worse when towing trailer.havn't towed trailer yet but just driving around , night and day differance installed it in front of muffler
right next to tranny crossmember.wasn't sure it would work but couldn't take drone anymore . I would recommend it .hope this helps for anyone who's on the fence about trying it.

okay what is the FTE resonator? I wear ear plugs when towing with my '97, 4 inch strait exhaust! that thing is obnoxious!

I can also vouch for the FTE resonator. I had one on the truck when I had the 5 inch exhaust on it. Made the truck sound super smooth like a turbine engine. I should have bought another when I went to the smaller 4 inch exhaust currently on the Ex. Takes all the "chop" out of the exhaust sound and removes/reduces any drone you have.

What is it? It is similar to a muffler. However, it has a spiraled chamber inside that "spins" the exhaust gases as they pass through it. It works. I used mine without a muffler. You can use them with a muffler as well. FTE is the company that makes them, not this website. Same acronym, but different people :-)

X2 on a resonator that spins the exhaust gases. The drone sound has been gone for 3+ years....and it does "sound super smooth like a turbine engine".

Seriously considering this!! I don't like the drone and it seems like it is getting worse.

Would love to hear from more people who have done this.

UPDATE so I finally got the trailer hooked up today. Got out on interstate 65 mph still has very small amount of drone.nothing like it had.Didn't look at rpms (can't remember). quiet up to 62 then quiet again at 68 ish .Over all still very happy with what it does. I would get a headache before even just driving around town.think I'll try wrapping muffler and tailpipe to get rid of last little bit.If I had to put a % of effectiveness I would say 90% is gone .

I have the 4" MagnaFlow and it came with the free Drone option at 1700-2000RPM. I installed the FTE 36" as close to the DP as possible which is right at the Tranny cross member. Any closer would require modification of the slightly lower angled down pipe. It took the edge off the drone but it was still there.

Your tailpipe length plays a big role. I ended up reducing the length of my tailpipe which raised the resonance Freq outside of my normal driving habits.

Here is some good reading on exhaust drone that helped me keep my sanity. See Post#36.

and if you want to get crazy build some resonator tubes. I was actually going to do this until I shortened my tailpipe.

This guy installed them on his Duramax. See post #15 with pics

Does having the tail pipe like that make your trailer or whatever you are towing get all black and sooty? Also does the back of your truck in the underside of your truck get all sooty?
