Installing emissions system in 79 f250

I recently took possession of my dads 79 f250 he bought new, after he passed.

I moved from Washington state to Denver with it and when getting the inspection done to register it, I was told that because emissions systems were an option, it's required in this county in to pass.

This truck was never equipped with any of the components, and after a lot of digging around, found a guy that had a box of everything I needed to install to make it Colorado legal.

Haynes manuals do not have any drawings or pictures of how to install a single component and I was wondering if anyone reading would have a clue on where to go to find information on air pump bracketry installations/placement and hose routing. I've found numerous emissions diagrams on the web, but nothing mechanical.

It's a 79 f250 custom 2wd with a 400, and the only thing I know for sure is the intake manifold has the port(currently plugged) for emissions.

Any help or pointers to help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!!!

Sounds like Colorado is a bunch of communists. Kentucky dropped inspections years ago (1960's) due to unethical practices and inconsistent application and interpretation of emission laws.

Did you look through the Ford truck information and then some on the top of the forum list? There is some really good info there.

Lots of posts about emissions removal. Almost none on installing a complete system.

I have a 77 with a 400 non catalyst with most of the original smog stuff on it. It didn't come with an air pump but I can take pics of any of the other stuff if you like and email them to you. The only thing missing on mine was the stock air cleaner housing but I found one and got it hooked up and passed Utah's smog testing a couple months ago.

Suggest you buy the factory service manual set for your truck. They are available in printed form used and maybe in CD. That would have lots of diagrams for wiring, vacuum ect. plus some pics.

Emissions equipment, depending on state laws, may be mandatory, may not be.

If your truck had been sold new in CA, it would have PCV (required for all states beginning in 1966); EGR valve; T/E (Thermactor Emission aka smog pump); and catalytic converter.

Find a 1977/78 LTD/Grand Marquis 351M/400; 1977/79 F100/350 351M/400; 1978/79 Bronco 351M/400; 1978/79 Lincoln Town Car/Continental Mark V 400 and get all the smog related parts from the engine.

Seems to me, since you're bringing the truck in from another state, there should be some kind of waiver from having to install that equipment. It might pay to ask around at a couple of hot rod shops. Maybe someone might be able to give you some Colorado-specific info on how to work with the state and what to say to them.

Get the shop manual on CD from amazon. I think mine was like $35. It'll save you a ton of time asking questions on here, especially when it comes to emissions equipment. It changed essentially yearly and varied depending on the engine. I had to piece mine back together too and while everyone on here was trying to be helpful, once I got the CD i flew right through it.
