Question Why is my 03 trans still working?

I bought this 03 limited 7.3 new, I now have 278,000. miles on it.This
is the original trans and it still runs like new, Why? I'm starting to get paranoid now. I know that this has to go sometime, just don't know if it's tomorrow morning. How long can these things go? I don't do any heavy towing. I am running Amsoil in it, and no by pass filters. Is there anything I should be looking into or replacing or just say the heck with it and put a new one in?

No towing and no chip...as long as you take care of it, I imagine it will last a long time if its lasted this long already.

Same as your engine, it has to go sometime too, right. Do you worry about that?

I'm confused as to why you're concerned about your trans. You act like it's supposed to fail or something.

Don't get me wrong, everything that is mechanical will fail eventually, but why are you asking about your trans?

Sometimes we jinx ourselves by saying things like, "I've never had..." or "I have always... and never had a problem".
I don't like tempting fate any more than absolutely necessary. :-)

Now that you've jinxed yourself, I have a rebuilt parts list when you need it

I've seen them run well over 350,000 miles with no problem.

My 2003 SD Trans made it 310K miles, I think it would have gone further but I had the Trans flushed and shortly after the flush it failed.

I never had 2 hot chicks in a hot tub at once... I never won the power ball... I never found a briefcase full of cash... I never had a diesel Excursion (Black and just like Michaels but nicer wheels and a full tank of fuel)... my wife never had a bigger butt...

Yours will be the exception my friend. You take "preventive maintenance" to a whole new level with your beast of a rig!

You could win the power ball, find a briefcase full of cash, and have a black diesel Excursion....but if you ever got 2 hot chicks in a hot tub at the same time, your wife would end up with all the power ball money, the money from the briefcase, and the black diesel Excursion. She'd then be able to surgically alter her posterior is she so chose to do, but you would be kicked to the curb.

I'm sure she'd let you keep the empty briefcase though. She'd probably let one of the hot chicks give it to you as she kicked you out, since the hot chicks would now be with her, since she'd have everything.

Stewart

PS - She can always buy a new briefcase if she wanted.

My uncle had several v10 vans in his fleet and a few 7.3 diesels. He ran them all till around 500k with no real issues other than maintenance and A/C work.

Just because the interwebs says that all 7.3/4r100 combos are junk with a high failure rate, doesn't make it true.
