Welcome to FTE
Obsolete Reliable Parts located in Nashville GA (229-686-5101) / Flashback F-100's located in Reidsville NC (336-421-3979) / Carolina Classics located in Durham NC (800-598-4211).
You could check with these sources for a mechanic recommend.
Services Offered section of Hemmings Motor News has listings for inspectors for hire. Usual cost is about 100 bucks, far cheaper than spending 1000's of bucks on a non inspected truck that could be a turd.
Get the VIN off the title/registration and the DSO code, stamped on the 3rd line far right of the Warranty Plate (riveted to the left door face below the latch). Post them here.
When decoded, you will know in what state the assembly plant was located...and the city/state that the truck was ordered from.
Truck may have GA or SC plates on it, now .. but it could be a rusty old rolling pile of miseries, having been assembled and sold new in a rust belt state, where salt is used on the roads.

Thanks, ND! I've already decoded the VIN (a trick I learned by lurking on this board and reading posts by informed people like yourself), and it's a Norfolk truck, and I'm told it lived in NC for its life. I've also gotten multiple pictures and even a few videos (a walk around and a driving one), but nothing beats the eyeball test by someone who knows what they're looking for...
I'll reach out to the numbers you listed and see if I can find a referral that way - it's an excellent idea. Since I live
in one of those rust states, these trucks just don't exist up here, so I've been canvassing the drier parts of the country to try to find a reliable and pretty much "all there" daily driver for longer than I care to admit... They're getting hard to find!
Thanks again... Open to any other suggestions (from you or others) as well.

Is the truck green by chance? Is it a flare-side? from Savannah? if so, stay away from it. If you need a reason, I'll lead you to your why.
