Faux wood trim on glovebox

I'm wondering what trim level the faux wood on the glovebox would be installed. My truck has it (I have all custom level trim but my vin says it should be a Ranger XLT, made a thread awhile back). I've seen some tricks with and without and would like some details on it. Does anyone know how to remove it? Would it leave a hole or something? Also, does a sliding rear window have anything to do with trim level? Thanks.

I think they're just glued on cause I think most of them seem to sit lower on one side like they got hot in the sun and slid down... LoL

My 79' F250 2wd is a Ranger, and it has the faux wood grain panel on the glove box, and wood grain around the vents, and I'm assuming it had it around the gauge cluster, but it was missing?... I peeled all the remaining wood grain off, so it would all match, including the one on the glove box, (I just peeled off the wood grain sticker off of the raised panel, I didn't remove the entire panel from the glove box, although as mentioned, I beleive it's just glued on as well) also removed the wood grain from the steering wheel. Now its a all black with the silver edges, looks alot better IMHO. Had it all been in good shape an still intact, I'd probably would have left it on. Not sure about the slider window, might just be an option... My friend has a 78 XLT Ranger with all the trim options, but no rear slider...

X2 on the faux wood grain sticker covered plastic panel is just glued/3m tapped on there.

Maybe heat it with a hair dryer and peel away, should have no holes, unless you have a glove box door that could also be used for the Ranger XLT badge?

I think it might have 3 holes to mount that badge. But you should be ok.

Ranger429 says (this is bronco directed but might help)? : Here are the differences between these models. I also have found out that for the 78/79 Bronco it was available as a Custom or Ranger XLT model only. They did not offer the Ranger package only on the Bronco.
Custom:
Pretty much your stripped down version although it could have been ordered with just about any individual option you wanted to put on it. A Custom model included: low back bucket seats, vinyl floor mat for the front only, 25 gallon gas tank, manual steering, 4 speed trans with the 351 motor and the 205 case.
Exterior features were:
hub caps, black painted bumpers and the stainless mirrors.
Ranger:
Not offered on the Bronco, only available in the F-series lineup. Those upgrades were:
The bench seat had a chain mail vinyl seat upholstery, it also included a color matching vinyl floormat, sunvisors, seat back covers in the regular cab model and white headliner with chrome trim.
Ranger XLT:
The front seat used a combination of cloth and vinyl, insulated woodgrain door panels, carpeted flooring, woodgrain around instrument cluster, passenger dash and the glove box, woodtone on the steering wheel horn button, chrome trim around taillights and halogen headlights. The XLT also got the body side trim.
Exterior:
Chrome bumpers, chrome molding around the windshield and side windows in the top, chrome molding around the drip rail by door, chrome wheel well lip molding, rear T-gate chrome pieces, and the body side trim.
Lariat:
Not offered on the Bronco, only available in the F-series lineup. Those upgrades were:
Full cloth seat trimmed in super soft vinyl, door trim panels that included padded inserts, map pockets on the lower door, button quilted padded headliner and extra insulation.

Ok, thanks guys. So the glovebox trim doesn't have anything with the trim level? It says custom on the little panel itself and I don't see any mounting hardware on the back of the glovebox.

If I heat and remove the panel what would be the condition of the paint underneath?

Gently heat it, like with a hair dryer and peel away, use "Go B Gone" to clean off the left over adhesive. Paint should be in great shape, the rest of the dash might be faded though?

plastic around the glove box is NOT just glued on, there are little plastic studs sticking through to the back with nuts on them. panel on the actual door is just glued, comes off easy with a putty knife. Mine is going back together so if you need pix just say.

Mine came from a Ranger Lariat XLT

Yes X2 the plastic or metal AROUND the glove box is attached with studs and 11/32 nuts and is a PITA to take off. We are talking about the wood grain ON the glove box door.

About time you got to working on it Brian. Jk lol

it's all the a/c stuff giving me a headache. Trying to track down pieces all over my garage (when you have both a/c and non a/c parts in the pile, it becomes interesting trying to find the right ones), find the right bolts/screws and now the truck is just tall enough that it's a pain to reach from the ground and a pain to have to crawl up in. lol
