2001 V6 3.0L Ford Escape Starting issues
About three weeks ago I started having an issue with my escape after it had been sitting for 8+ hours. Only after sitting for several hours it acts like it doesn't want to start. When it first started it would crank forever before giving up on itself. If I kept cranking it I would eventually get ignition and it would idle/run smoothly with no additional issues. Then one morning it just didn't start and I had to wait until the afternoon before I got ignition. If I cycle the pump on and off before trying to start it after several hours of not being run it tends to be a little quicker/easier to ignite. I put seafoam motor treatment in the last two tanks of gas and it does much better in reliably starting after ~5cranks. It will fire up immediately if it hasn't been sitting for too long but just yesterday I started it after 2 hours and had the a/c on for not very long before I smelled a very potent gasoline smell. I pulled over immediately but it did not smell at all under the hood, however after getting back in the car it still reaked. After restarting it again and having the a/c on the smell dissipated pretty quickly. Although it is now pretty reliable it still cranks for a few seconds, dies, then fires up after sitting for a while. Any feedback on what this might be or if anyone had any similar issues I would love to read about it. I have done a lot of research and it sounds like it could be an injector sticking open and bleeding fuel into the piston, but I'm no mechanic and I definitely did not open up the engine to check. Let me know what you all think!
