My new 1960 Ford F100 4x4 pick up

My new ( to me ) 1960 Ford F100 4x4 pick up, I just bought it. I have to go pick it up soon. This is my dream truck , so I'm chomping at the bit to get it home.
It has a 1959 hood on it, but it is a 1960. I have a pic on the vin badge and it has the codes say it is a true 1960 4x4, it was Monte Carlo Red, and had the V8 and automatic transmission.
I have one question, what was the standard lug count on the '60 F100 4x4? I have looked up the standard rim sizes, however I don't know how many lugs the rims had.
I also want to put on the factory steel wheels, do any of you know where I can buy them? New preferably. I would like to get the 16 or even more 17.5 inch steel rims. I've been googling for them, but I'm not coming up with anything.

I would appreciate any help. Thank you.

Here are some pictures

Nice score on the 60. If it has the stock axles they will be 5 lug, 5x5.5 bolt pattern. I doubt you will find new factory wheels. Any 5x5.5 bolt pattern should work as long as the center hole is big enough to clear the front hub. Iirc 16 inch innie nub was the factory half ton wheel. I know there was a 17.5 option but I think that was only 8 lug. To lazy to look in the book right now. Someone will be along soon to correct me if I am wrong. Used 16inch 5 lug innie nubs should be easy to find but I doubt you will find new.

17.5 five lug rims

They did make them, unfortunately I can't decide if I am going to use the set I have or not. If I ever got rid of them, thundersnow was already given 1st dibs on them. Should know by fall if I want to keep them. (My truck should be finished)

Welcome to the Orphanage! You will find a lot of helpful folks here, and plenty of fridge 4X4 owners. I like that you started out with pictures we like that! Once you get the truck and have a chance let us know what your plans are.

Marc; Lets see some pictures of your progress!

Thank you all for the information, I can't wait drive out and get it.
I want to get started working on it.
I have heard, I don't know if it's true or not, but that only certain steel wheels will work and others will not clear the brake hub. Is that true? Or will any 16 inch steel Ford wheels with that bolt pattern work even if they are from a car?
A lot of times in junk yards they have those old rims, but don't remember what they off of.
Thank you for your help.

There was no automatic transmission for the 4x4 in the 60's. The options were a column shifted 3spd manual or a floor shifted 4spd.

The automatic came sometime in the 70s for the 4x4.

Sorry I don't mean to be disagreeable, but there was a DSO, dealer special order code that included the Ford O Matic and Cruise O Matic that wasn't standard, but was available.

Hey Cowboy; I know with the divorced trans case there is plenty of space to make it easy to install most any trans. what was the DSO number for your truck and the trans code on your ratings plate. If you could post a picture I would like to see what all came on your truck.
Thanks, Im looking forward to see this project.

The trams code has two letters, FA, indicating a special a special order, there is usually only one letter.
I will posting a lot on the rebuild, I can't wait to get started.

Thanks for the pictures! Do you plan to keep the drive train?
I wonder if Marc could provide the numbers off of his 5 lug 17.5's to help you in your search for those rare birds.

You're welcome about the pics. I was thinking about either the 17 1/2's or the 16 inch wheels. Any hope there would be appreciated. Thank you.

A/T has been swapped in, because...no F100/250 4WD was available with an A/T until 1973.

Your truck originally came with the Ford 3 speed manual with non syncro 1st gear. Borg-Warner T-98 4 speed was optional.

F10 = F100 (applies to both 2WD & 4WD). The MODEL code defines 2WD from 4WD

C = 292 2V

0 = 1960.

K = Kansas City MO Assembly Plant.

25561 = 1960 Numerical Sequence of Assembly, the trucks specific serial number.

118" Wheelbase.

J = Red.

F103 = F100 4WD .. 5,600 lbs. GVWR

28M = Assembled December (M) 28, 1959.

FA = Ford 3 Speed Manual Transmission.

AXLE:

5,600 lbs. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating.

146 net HP @ 3,800 RPM

6451 = Domestic Special Order number. Truck special ordered by the original purchaser, not "bought off the lot."

Domestic Special Order: Something special was installed after the truck left the assembly line.

It could have been a special body (Utility or Flat Bed or Stake Bed), but there's no way to find out, as FoMoCo THREW AWAY all the records decades ago.

If a part failed that was a DSO, there would be no info in the truck parts catalog, so the dealer contacted FoMoCo with the DSO number.

FoMoCo looked up the number, passed the info back to the dealer where the part could be found. Same DSO system in use today.

Since the Styleside bed does not match the color of the cab, it's probably not original to the truck.

Stock 5 x 5 1/2 "innie" wheels are available. I just bought a set of 4 from Summit Racing. Furthermore the inside has been redesigned to a disc brake wheel.

I'm a little late to the subject of the 17.5s. They are Ford number B6C 1015A / Kelsey Hayes number 40337. Used 1956 to 1966. The NWRA cross reference code is X-45059, but that won't help a lot because only Ford used them. Tracking down a set by number will be difficult because K-H part numbers, unlike Budd's similar 3/4 ton version, were not stamped into the metal. The number was applied on a paper sticker on the inner rim base, inside a mounted tire if they somehow survived the years. This above referenced set is the first I've heard having surfaced. Stu
