On vacation in the mountains...black smoke

i have a 06 6.0 with 231k miles on it. It has never smoked. We just pulled into Colorado Springs and noticed when I accelerate it is blowing puffs of black smoke. Power seems fine no other issue. My EGR is deleted and I run Matt Gearheads 8k tune. Just curious we are headed to Yellowstone this week and want to make sure it's in tip top shape.

I read it could be related to the altitude? Anyone else think that's possible?

Daniel

You may want to check and see if your Baro sensor has compenstaed for the altitude change. I really do not remember the exact rate of change but depending on your altitude somewhere around 15 I would guess.

Welcome to high altitude there's whole lot less oxygen content in the air you and your truck are breathing its all normal. Wait until you really get into the mountains it gets even tougher to breath.

Lol on pikes peak today and I couldn't breath. Just headed to Yellowstone later this week with a RV and wasn't sure. It doesn't do it at home :-)

You lose approximately .5 PSI for every 1000 feet of elevation increase so at an altitude of 6000 feet above sea level you would have about 12 PSI on the BARO.
