Muffler Questions

To straight pipe or not to straight pipe my 351w that is the question. Bout ready to just go get that dirty muffler chopped out hah. Now the exhaust on my 94 club looks to be stock, the tailpipe end measures 3 inches across, now is it 3 inch pipe all the way up? Also any aftermarket muffler suggestions for a 351? I plan to keep the entire length of stock exhaust in tact and just swap in a different muffler. Heres some current pics

just wanna open up that v8 sound a bit more , any other suggestions for a decent sounding setup on a budget of 50-100 for a muffler?

I like Hooker Aero-Chamber mufflers. But they are a straight through design, so they may be too loud for some peoples taste.

Nice, I'll definitely check them out. For now the muffler is cut out, just straight cat back ending bout middle of the van. Sounds nice, rest of the piping to the back is still intact, until i decide on a muffler

I had my 7.3 IDI straight piped for a with 3" exhaust for a while. It sounded pretty good, but after cruising a while the drone would get annoying. If I hooked any type of load it would be very load. I went ahead and put in a straight through truck muffler. Much better.

Also, I saw in your sig that you have a 92 SHO. I have a 94 MTX SHO that is my track car. Not the fastest, but still fun to drive.

That's probably 2-1/2" pipe between the converter and muffler. I built a new 3" single system for my 96 E150. I went with a new high flow cat, then 3" pipe between that and the Dynomax Super Turbo truck muffler (29" long) with a pair of header collector flanges spliced in there to make it easier to take it apart if needed. The tailpipe is a mandrel bent stainless 3" for an F150 (Magnaflow or Flowmaster, can't remember which) It's got a nice mellow sound idling, going down the road, it's nearly impossible to hear it.

Better put some gas in the tank. The cat does a lot to quiet-en the exhaust sound, if it's still got guts left in it. Old as it looks it may have burned out the guts, leaving an expansion chamber.

Been looking around a bit and am trying to decide running only 2.5 in tubing or adapting to 3 in tubing and do a straight pipe 90 degrees out under the side in front of my back tire with a nice black exhaust tip. Really fond of how she sounds without a muffler so that's why im considering just a straight pipe setup. As for tips im tied between this dual

or a single like this

I wonder how many realize a too free flowing of an exhaust costs you power and mileage?

luckily Ive got that cat there to help a little, definitely not done with the exhaust yet, still need 4.5ft of piping to route to the new location and still may get a muffler of some sort. Definitely still feels as powerful in its current state, and as for mpgs, shes always drank fuel unless freeway driving haha

Also, does anyone have any experience with the Summit Racing Street and Strip mufflers? Seem to have great reviews for the 40 shipped price

Walker RV mufflers are good. I've been thinking about headers into a 3" single setup with a Walker straight through RV muffler.

Still need the final bent piece put on, but the mechanic tacked in the new Summit Racing® 2-Chamber Performance Muffler (SUM-630168) i ended up getting. Decent muffler
