'56 Cost?
Just wondering what a '56 should cost? I'm in Mississippi and a buddy and I found one today,it's a good straight body, all good glass, surface rust on roof and hood.No motor or trans, original V8 truck VIN #F10V6U5825, 5000, 110, 143, 4000, 3.73, W, 9H210787T. I'm not sure what these other numbers were I just wrote down everything on the door plaque. I have mainly been working on '66 models and have always wanted something older. They also had a '60 in good shape it has a running 6 cyl. 3 on tree. for $500.00. It's also got a good straight body. Thanks for any info on what the going price is. Keith

Is it a big back window cab? If there is rust on the roof and hood I
bet when the front fenders are removed the cab will be rotted out too! Its worth as much as youre willing to pay. I've payed as little as 200.00 to 10,000 for builders ($10,000 for a all stock rust free panel 56)

No,it's got the small back window,We looked it over pretty good. The worst thing I saw was the bottom of the drivers side door. It sort of shocked me that there was'nt a hole or two in the floor board as most of the '66's are usually rusted there. He' asking $450.00 for it,so I guess I'll go back by there tommorow and talk to him. THANKS Keith

kjrf100,
Does he have a title? Check the cab corners, the "eye brows" on the front fenders, the front edge of the hood, the area where the running boards bolt to the rear fenders, the window frame above the front windshield, and any other locations for serious cancer. If it is reasonably solid, then it sounds like a fair price.
Also check to see if everything else like door handles/window cranks, intrument cluster, dash *****, etc are intact. All those little things can add up in a hurry!
If you get the truck, I'd like to see pics of the original paint (code "W"). Should be light green, but I haven't found much info on it yet.
Let us know if it follows you home!
Good Luck,

Kent, Well I brought her home this morning,I don't think I was going to sleep until I did anyway. So now my 16 yr. old has something besides "Video Games" to spend his time on! As far as the "W" code paint goes what I saw of it ( the truck is several shades of primer) looks to be a mint green I would call it ,but as you know these trucks have been around awhile. He did not have the title which I was aware of from the first visit, but here in Miss. we still live by the "9/10ths Law" so it's not a probblem. I can see what your thinking Though it's always nice to have the documentation to see what matches and what does not. O.K for now THANKS AGAIN for the help, and the son and I are off to the NSRA show in Louisville,Kentucky this evening and I have been buying trucks instead of getting my stuff ready!!!! Thanks Again!!!! Keith

Congrats to you and your son on your new project! Sounds like a great start. I don't know how familiar you are with these trucks or restoration in general, but you may want to check out Mr. JNOILON's website and read the article titled something like "Trials of the First Time Builder." Lots of good information combined with Johns sense of humor!
There is a wealth of information here if you just ask!

Keith,
As Kent mentioned, John's site is excellent for folks starting out. If you want some info on stuff you'll likely have to deal with sooner or later, please feel free to stop by Earl's World. A shameless promo, I admit.

I will vouch for the value of reading Earl's World. I recently had about an hour or two with nothing else to do, so I actually read Earl's World from start to finish. Wanted to expand my horizons...
For someone that feels fine constricted to the rigidness of restoration rather than allowing themselves to embrace the freedom and exhillaration of the street rod world and all the exciting things it has to offer, it's a worthwhile read. Actually, even for us progressive types it's worthwhile as well.

And I did read that part about "nothing else to do". Deeply wounded ... someplace here ... well, I know there was blood but I can't find any now.
