We've done that before, but I don't think anyone took the time to put one together for this one.

Ok. Anyway, good to see how well the 3.5 EB pulls. Well done.

The standard 5.0l also. Main difference between the Boss and the std 5.0l in the stang is ported heads, different intake manifold and forged pistons.(instead of hyperutectic)

If you have deep enough pockets to afford the Aluminator, the possibilities are endless.

Well I know what I'm going to spend money on if I ever win the Powerball! But I'd wait til the new transmission comes out and then do it. But I'd doubt I am not going to win the lotto so it'll just be a pipe dream. I can't imagine how much gas that thing drinks down. But I am curious which fuel they used in that test...probably standard 87 at the pump. But I would like to see the E85 numbers since IIRC E85 does give a bit more power at the side of losing a good chunk of fuel economy.

I got some bogus info in the engine forum. "If you read it on the internet it must be true."
After further research the std 5.0 has powder forged rods. The Boss has upgraded sinter-forged rods and the Aluminator has Manley® H-beam connecting rods.
It's been several years since I've had an engine built. I didn't realize there were so many different types of forged rods. I don't think there was back then??

We've all been there, so I understand. But, now we know how stout the bottom end of the 5.0 is in these trucks - very. Perhaps the 5.0 EB isn't far off. It sounds like it would certainly have a lot of power in a light weight package.

You know how it is, the manufacturer is always looking for a way to make parts cheaper and faster. Newer manufacturing methods and materials help to make it possible. I figure the forged powdered metal rods must be cheaper to produce than a traditional forged rod. It can be difficult to keep tabs on the changes.

I looked up powder forged rods, on the internet That was interesting I never heard of them till now. When I rebuilt my 390 my choice was H Bean or I Beam forged steel. Thanks sharing the connecting rod information.

Here's a link to a Hot Rod discussion of powder-forged rods: The Power of Powder. Interesting. So, what kind forged rods do the 3.5 EB's have?

I have not found a lot on the material of the 3.5l EB con rods. They are for sure am I beam rod which I am sure are forged.

This article shows the internals of a stock 3.5l EB and lists the rods as forged steel I beams. I don't know if they are forged from a chunk of steel or are forged from powdered metal. (powdered steel)

Also listed as "forged steel" here.(chart 1/3rd way down)

Good reads. I'd read the first one before, but did so again, and hadn't seen the 2nd one. But, it makes me happy the next 12 months are packed pretty full as that'll bring Le Mans here all that much more quickly. Can't wait to see what & Ganassi can do with the new GT.

I think Full Race is hoping to take an Ecoboost to 800 Hp before something breaks. The fun part is we get to sit back and watch without spending a dime.
