Another need for 1973 P600 Grumman: steering box!

My Bread Truck is "equipped" with a manual Steering box... maybe cursed is the better word! It has big hard spot partway through the arc too. I'm afraid it gonna freeze up on me. Does anyone have a Steering box for this vehicle? I don't know if it's because it's worn out or it is too small for the oversized (22.5) wheels put on by the PO, but it is VERY hard to turn and I break into a sweat trying to park or do 3-point u-turns.
Ideally, I'd like to convert to power steering and it seems there's plenty of used gearboxes at the local truck wrecker- but it's hard to see if they'd mount up without major modifications and or fabbing. Any steering specialists out there? Cheers from San Diego where the weather is perfect and the drivers suck.

There is no P600 listed for 1973/76. What are the first 3 digits of the VIN?

Hi numberdummy you helped me last time I think... anyway- there's only a grumman plate on the inside firewall. No Ford number unfortunately.

I don't care about a plate, your truck is registered by its specific 11 digit VIN .. post the 1st 3 digits.

Contact mark at Straighline steering in San Jose Ca
www.straightlinesteering.com/

He is the steering expert in the US on older trucks... he has thousands of boxes and can rebuild yours

Other rebuilders send their boxes to him saying they did it

He has done several boxes for me and they are impeccable.. and he has helped me on F600 steering related crossover stuff

Send him a picture of your box... it may be a ross?

Pic: 1973/79 Ford 100/500 Series (Light) Truck/Econoline/P350/500 Parts Catalog: P350/500 = Parts List #1.

Available NOS: Steering Shaft & Worm (1); Sector Shaft (5); Bearings/bearing cups/seals/sector shaft bushings (quite a few of each).

One of the obsolete parts search websites is down, so there may be additional Steering Shaft & Worm and Sector Shaft available NOS

Will edit in the info when it "wakes up."

Thank you so much! Now what I need to know is: is there a bolt-up power-steering box for this unit? I have contacted Mark in San Jose at Straightline steering- talked to him last year but wasn't able to visit his shop which he recommended to solve my troubles- maybe this time!
Thanks again for your efforts and accuracy- it's a big help.

No P/S was available for P Series.

I checked the other obsolete search website, no one else had any additional steering shaft & worm or sector shaft.
