What Have You Done To Your Truck Today?
#16
Drove ~450 miles today, home from STL Filled up with almost 600 miles on the rank and the math says we got 18.7 instead of the 19.6 the truck thought we'd gotten. That was the trip up, as previously described, and some around-town driving with my son testing the turbos.
On the trip home, fighting a bit of head wind, the truck thinks it got 18.7. Most of the ~275 miles on this tank were done at 70 MPH on cruise. We will see what it actually got in a few days when I fill up.

riclar - Just noticed you have the wheel well liners on your truck after reading multiple posts from you. Did you go with Ford or aftermarket? How do you like them? Any extra work involved to clean behind/above them? Any pictures of them by chance? I wish they would just paint the underside of the bed black. I think the black fender wells look 10x better.
Pics as requested:

Thanks riclar. Looks great. I am guessing the clip/button in picture #2 holds them to the fender lip, anything hold them against the well?
Gary - I am a little surprised the computer was that far off. I haven't hand calculated mine in a while, but it always seemed to be spot on before. Was your son as impressed with the '15 as the rest of us? Were you able to make it to Busch to catch the game?

Yes, he was impressed - both with the overall truck as well as the engine. But we didn't make the game as we were banking on getting tickets from his employer and that didn't happen. And if we didn't get them the plan was to buy some. However, our granddaughter caught something at daycare that showed up just before we bought and we decided to pass. But, we did watch it on TV.
Yes, I'm surprised the truck was off that far as well. But I knew something was up because it had been at 20.2 when we got there and then dropped to 19.5 when he lead-footed it. But it should have come right back up as the trip out of STL was gentle - and it didn't come up for a loooong time, even though we were driving 50ish MPH on back roads.

Hard plastic screws that go into the holes already in the frame. The clips are on the side of the liner, that round button was there from the factory, nothing was drilled into the frame.
here is pic, nothing holds the liner against the frame. clips and screws are on the front and back also there is some pressure holding it in place.

I was disappointed with the stock "all weather" floor mats that came with our XLT. They didn't even cover the area under your feet. This is probably the NHTSA-safety floor mat design. Anyway, they are not useful, and I recommend you do not get them from Ford, but order the Weathertech mats.
Here are pictures of the original (installed), the original side-by-side with the Weathertech, and finally the Weathertech (installed). We live in the country, and really need a good quality floor mat; especially in the winter.

Filled up my truck today. The Lie-o-Meter (LoM) said I was getting 18.6 MPG and had been getting roughly that for the last couple hundred miles. But, when I filled up at 570.2 miles it took 32.497 gallons for an average of 17.5 MPG. In other words, the LoM was 1.1 MPG in error. To put that in perspective, on the last tank I got 18.7 MPG when the LoM showed 19.6.
So, I'm here to say that we should NOT be quoting the LoM when we say what MPG we are getting. If mine is any indicator they are off significantly, but not consistently. The only real, meaningful MPG #'s are those determined by dividing the miles by the gallons. All other #'s are LIES!

But I'll join the party. My first 485 miles came in at 16.8 MPG via the LoM. Calculated was 17.1.
The next 400 miles came in at 18.6 via the LoM, calculated came in at 17.4.
I'm still working on the 3rd tank, but will report back in. Think we're heading down the coast...

As for hijacking, how can I hijack my own thread?
