Impressive Brake Life?

My '12 FX4 has roughly 36,000 miles on it with original brake pads/rotors. When I picked it up the inspector commented that he was impressed with the brake wear for around here. 60% left on the front brakes.

I live in hilly/windy Pa, haul often, and have bigger tires on my rigg. I do use engine braking a lot and drive conservatively but I'm impressed with the stock brake wearing....from past experience, I was expecting to change them soon. The only complaint I have is the squeaking that comes from the dust getting in these brake units, hate it! What's everyone else think of their brake wear? Good or bad?

Not my experience at all. 20k and rotors were turned twice and all the pads had cracks in the lining. Total junk to me.

Yep, same as you. My 2011 just turned 40k and my brakes are still 60%. On my 2002 I replaced fronts at 24k.

Rotors turned twice in 20k?? Something is seriously wrong there. My vehicles seem to go about 5-6 years (about 70k) for fronts. My last truck ('02 F250 PSD) was done at about 70k then at 140k. And I never did the rears, although they were getting close..

My current truck still looks good approaching 30k.

Had my rotors turned at 13k and again just this past Monday at 27k for very bad shuttering with moderate braking from highway speed. Not happy with the quality of these brakes. Tried to push for new ones, but they were "within tolerance".

Next time this happens, will have Crystal step in to help me get new ones.

Sorry, venting

My 2010 with 74K miles is in need of new pads--not because they're worn out, but because they squeak like mad when they're cold. Gonna do them tomorrow. On edit, I changed them out this morning. They were a little more than 50% worn but had several cracks/gaps in the friction material maybe indicating hard spots. The rotors hardly appeared used.

My rotors were turned not long before I got the truck, and 2 weeks after I got the truck, they warped again. very unimpressed with the brakes on this. Ive had other trucks and none of them had problems like this.

I'm at 33k on all stock brakes, i get a little shudder every once and awhile. I want to do new hi performance rotors and pads in the next 10k.

My front rotors were turned at 25K under warranty. Just had the truck inspected and at 51K miles, I still have 8mm on the fronts and 6.5mm on the rears. I'll likely come close to 70K miles before they need changing.

Just did my oil change at 80,000 on my 2012. Still have the original brakes and rotors. The dealer did tell me I will probably need to replace them by my next oil change. They did start to shudder a bit on hard braking from high speeds so he's probably right.

Anybody else think the stock pads create a lot of dust? This is made worse by my white wheels, but i have to scrub them once a week to keep them looking decent.

Please let us know what pads/rotors you go with and how you like them. I was thinking EBC or similar when the time comes... NOT going OEM for sure

Yessir, they sure do. Even my grey-ish wheels look gross about 50 miles after washing the truck with brake dust

Sounds like it's hit or miss with these brakes.

They sure do....the squeaking the dust causes annoys the heck outta me.

On my F250, I went with Cryo'ed PowerSlot rotors and Hawk LTS pads, but they were also very dusty. I replaced them with Wagner ThermoQuiet (EDIT: Ceramic) pads and they seemed much less dusty.

90,000 on mine. That's miles, not Kilometers BTW.

Pads are still pretty good, rotors could stand to be turned.

Just bought some rotors and pads, I'm in no hurry to put them on though.
