Not in my experience. Biggest I've ever been able to fit on a 4WD suspension was 285/75r16's. And that's 2" taller than a 2wd suspension.

You might be able to get them to work if you don't mind a little rubbing, and it would look somewhat goofy with those huge tires and no gap in the fender wells, but if it were me I wouldn't do it.

Well, the 305/75r16 series tire is about the equivalent to a 33"/10" tire. The max I would go on a 2wd would be a 30" or 285/75.

My own experience: I have 285/75/16s on my truck. Now, it is an F350, with solid front axle, and leaf springs. So, it may not have as much clearance as an F250. Don't know. Anyhoo, I did experience the occasional rub against the front springs, at full steering lock, going through a dip or some such. I installed 1/2" thick spacers (fortunately, had enough wheel stud length to do it) and haven't had an issue since.

Oh and by the way, lindstromjd, a 305/70 is within a whisker of the same size as a 285/75. Just sayin'

Depends on the brand/ tread depth. Today in fact I'm cutting the bumper and fender a little to fit the the 305 70 tires. These are wrangler mtr's and they need a lot of room.

Um... the 305/70's are 20mm wider than a 285/75. Same height at 213mm, but different width.

I don't wish to argue but this is what I have learned.

305 (or 285) is the width of the tire in mm. 70 (or 75) is the aspect ratio. So:

305 X .70 = 213.5 mm. that is the measurement from the bead to the ground, not factoring tire squish

285 x .75 = 213.75 mm. So basically the same overall height. The width is what's different.

I stand to be corrected.

Thinking back on what I said earlier about height and width, I was wrong. The first number is indeed the width, and the second number is the % of the width measured from the wheel. How I managed to get that screwed up, I blame on being bored out of my mind on rain-out days.

I went back and fixed what I said for the sake of anyone searching.

In a LT285/75R16...

*The 285 is the section width in MM.

*The 75 is the aspect ratio. To clear up any confusion...This refers to the sidewall height, not the overall diameter. In this case, 75% of the 285mm width is the height of the sidewall from the lip/bead of the rim up.

*R means it's a radial tire.

*16 in the rim diameter in inches.

Depending on brand and tread design, they both sit in that 33-33.5" overall diameter range. Often you can get away with either taller or wider in stock form. Going tall AND wide can get you into trouble. Another size to consider is a LT255/85R16. It'll fit a factory wheel better and just may fit w/o too much complication.

If you want a common metric LT tire size. Go with the 285s...

305/70R 16 = 33 X 12.50 X 16
285/75R 16 = 33 X 11.50 X 16

305/70R16 will rub real bad. had them on my nephews 88 F250 2 wheel drive when we first got it.
the 285/75R16 is much better, they will only rub on full lock with suspention compression.
