2wd oil pan removal
'79 F350 Camper Special 2wd 460 c6. Is is possible to take the engine mounts loose and lift the engine enough to completely remove the oil pan? Right now the intake and valve covers along with the timing set and cover are off and no radiator is installed. I pulled the plug on mine which sat for the last 15 years and a congeled sludge took its time draining out. I would like to throw the pan in the parts washer at work if I can to clean all the crap out.

Ok, for anyone searching this in the future: The pan can be done in vehicle, it is a pain in the hind quarters. I pulled the engine mount bolts that lay horizontally with the frame. When you do it this way there is no way to put the suggested wood block between the cup bolted to the block and the engine mount rubber. I just set the engine back down while I cleaned and painted the pan. I had to lift the engine to the point I think one of the body seams gave a bit to get the pan out. Went in much easier this way too.

Thanks for the follow up
Chevrolets 454's in the 70's did not bolt the oil pump screen to the pump armature and was notorious for falling off and dumping oil psi when stopping.. Those guys used to cut a hole in the pan, braze the screen on and weld the hole back up..
Basically, no brand is immune to the dreaded oil pan job.. The new 6.7's come with freggin plastic pans"!
