K Stupid Question Time Stock Lug Nuts & After Market Aluminum Wheels
Hey I have a 2004 Ford f250 and I purchased a set of aftermarket wheels that are the acorn style seats but the lugs from the old wheels wouldn't fit my truck. I have the 14X1.5 and it was the 14X2 so I just installed the wheels with the stock lugs till I can order the right nuts.
Here is the thing the aluminum wheels have the perfect diameter hole that the stock nuts fit perfectly in. Could they have been made so that both lugs worked with them? They don't look great so I thought I would actually just order some chrome studs off ebay. Which is another point, there are lugs on ebay that are like 25 a set but autozone wants $2.50 each for the ones they sell. What is up where should I get a good set from? All information is welcome!

I wouldn't drive it without the right lugs but I would suggest doing a search and learning about hub centric and lug centric. Your stock wheels are hub centric and your new wheels are lug centric. I took off my aftermarket lug centric wheels and went back to stock after doing done reading.

If your new after market rims are a lug-centric design (as most are) vs the hub-centric OEM design then using the OEM lug nuts is very dangerous and should not be done! The OEM hub-centric design uses the hub to center the rims and the flat washer faced lug nuts only provide the clamping force to secure the rims to the hubs, centering is done at the actual hub ring. After market lug-centric rims are centered via the tapered seat acorn style lug nuts as the hub hole in the rims does not match the hub ring diameter exactly (like the OEM setup). Using the OEM lug nuts on lug-centric rims can allow for the rim to be mounted UN CENTERED on the hubs, which can lead to all sorts of bad things, think circus clown car and paint can shaker combined, not good.

there are lugs on ebay that are like 25 a set (likely USA made) but autozone wants $2.50 each for the ones they sell(likely off shore chineasium junk). What is up where should I get a good set from? Seek a reputable wheel retailer and insist on USA made lugs for your application. All information is welcome!
