Because the axle is longer the springs don't sit on the pads, u-bolts don't align with holes. The list goes on and on.
I already have the proper axle, new king pins, disk brake conversion, set of 5 on 5.5" wheels and tires. Still need to find some springs and new linkage.
Oh and the front wheels had the center hubs cut out and welded back together with hub caps over them to hide it.

PO must have liked to live on the edge!

Looks like he was blind, and his battery was running low, or the coathanger ran out. The three longest leaves at least are ruined, I'd say.

I pride myself in being a accomplished butcher, but that surpasses even my skills.
That is some scary stuff, if that is indicative of the work done on the truck I would be inspecting everything carefully.
Time for new springs IMO, even though it looks like he may not have put enough heat them to hurt them.

I'm speechless! At least my PO didn't do any welding. Just ran it the way it was.

LOL I bought a 1968 cutlass W30 ram rod that had an exhaust made of black iron pipe. Factory high performance car with a home depot exhaust!

Here's some new springs, just a bit cheaper than already shown.

Thought some of you might enjoy a new picture taken this weekend. Got that PO's nightmare pulled out.

Already picked up another axle, set of springs, and a king pin replacement kit. Just trying to decide if I'm going to remove some of the leafs to lower it before I assemble. Oh - and my helper agreed this will be much safer for cruising.

You might want to use the brakes off that on your "new" axle, as F-100 drums are much cheaper.

Also picked up a set of disk brakes for the front. But I will have to reuse the hubs.
