Have an F250 Super Duty that has recently been driving erratically. Has 113k miles and has had few problems before this.
1. The Service Engine Soon light comes on every time it's started and generally stays on.
2. The truck will noticeably jerk at times when driving. Sometimes it will go dead after this.
3. It goes dead often when driving - this is usually when I'm turning, slowing down to stop, but can also be just driving down the road when the engine cuts off. After stopping, it will crank back up again.
Took it in to repair and they checked the diagnostics and said there were 3 sensors failing (2 of them injectors). They don't specialize in diesels and suggested I take it to the Ford dealership.
Took it in Oct. last year to repair place and got the starter motor replaced.
I'm no mechanic, so other than basic stuff and I have no clue.
When checking the fluids did notice that the radiator was hot and fluid was down below where it shows minimum. Will be putting more in once it cools off and double check the others again.
Had thought that it may be water in the diesel at first, then a clogged fuel filter. Not sure until I take it in to the dealer. Anyone have ideas?

 

What year, what engine, and what sensors did they say were failing?

 

if the service engine soon light comes on, there is a stored trouble code in the computer. you will need to get it to a diesel shop and have the codes read to find out what is wrong.

 

It's a 1999 F250 Super Duty V8-445CI 7.3L. Wish I had made a note of the specific sensors. Need to get it to a shop that specializes with diesels but won't have a chance for a few days.

 

Ok, got a chance to take my diesel truck in to the Ford dealership to check out (see my previous post on issues). The grand total they came up with was $
My question is, is all this worth getting? I realize the sensors need to be fixed. The upper CAC tube leaking is pretty common. Some of the latter things I may hold off on. I think the pads/rotors are still good, and if not can get if done cheaper elsewhere.

brakes are $450 for 4 NEW rotors and pads do it yourself
most of the other stuff is also easily done by a backyard mechanic too.

The air box is broken. They gave me a part number for it. Is it standard for most Ford trucks and easy to put in?

i have no idea what they cost, the very first thing i do on a truck when i get is is cut the stock filter box out and put a 6637 filter in the truck.
