V10, no oil pressure, help!

2001 v10, I drove about 1200 miles and when I pulled into my driveway the oil light came on and the pressure dropped to nothing. There is no knock and no oil leaking. It was a quart low.
Any ideas?

I'm starting with replacing the oil pressure sending unit. But, yes I feel like an idiot, I can't find it on the engine! Where is it located?

Any help is appreciated! Thanks, Adam

This might help...

Now that I'm not on my phone, you could hook up manual gauge to see if you have any oil pressure - that would be my first check before replacing anything.

Isn't the pressure sensor actually a switch?

My gauge always stays at the same place. It doesn't fluctuate with RPM like it does on other vehicles. The needle is either in the middle or at the bottom.

Stupid setup, why even put a gauge in.

Oil pressure sending unit on the V10 is driver side of the block towards the front. Below exhaust manifold.

Get a real oil pressure gauge on it to confirm the oil pressure. Even if the sender is just bad now is a good time to add one. I welded up a custom stainless pipe on mine using stainless schedule 40 pipe/fittings that takes the stock sending unit and the sending unit to my full sweep electrical gauge. This way both gauges work.

Mine did the same thing and I put on a new sensor and no more problems.

I know the early 2000s Rangers and Exploders had issues with faulty oil pressure sending units. Maybe it is the same deal with the super duty of the same years. Better to be safe than sorry and confirm your pressure.

Changed the sending unit after I found it. It was where I thought it was but me hesitation was that it looked like it was on a coolant line. A new sensing unit did the trick.

I put just over 5000 miles on it in the past two weeks (picked it up in Denver). With 3295 miles in the last 63 hours, marathon trip from minneapolis to anchorage. The truck is awesome to drive, much better than my suburban.
Thanks for the help!
