My 1978 short bed project

Hello all! Ill start by giving you a short back story on this truck. The restoration was started by the previous owner who never made it to far past getting some non rusted sheet metal and acquiring a 460 out of a Lincoln continual. I got the truck in 2005 when I was 18 and fresh out of school so I started working on it daily after work. After the mechanical was mostly figured out I started tackling the body and after countless hours of sandblasting and lots of work it came out really nice! Unfortunately/fortunately in late 2007 the economy for manufacturing in Ohio took a dive so I packed up my things and headed west to go to school and work in the motorcycle industry. The truck has been sitting in storage 90% done up until last month when I pulled her out and sent it over to a good friends garage to finally get finished. Due to California's BS emission laws there is a good chance I wont be able to bring it out here but for the time being I plan on using it as my Ohio vehicle when I go home on vacation.

The motor in the picture looks like it has 351M-400 valve covers to me. Nice truck though, love the color.

Thanks! Its a 460, i used the L&L conversion kit with the 9 quart oil pan, mild cam and MSD electronic ignition. I just had and exhaust system made using flowmatser 44's and it sounds great! All these pictures are old ill try and find some newer ones to post. I'm going back to Ohio in August and it should be totally done. I am having a hard time finding a complete set of the lower racetrack trim though. I just spent about 3,000 at JBG on all new chrome but the lower racetrack isn't available right now.

The dizzy with the pictured male ends was introduced in 1977. 1977 Lincoln/Continental Mark V came with 460's, 1978's came with either 400's or 460's. 1979's came with 400's.

460's have 7 valve cover bolts per side, 400's have 8.

There are more vehicles in L/A, Orange, Riverside & San Bernardino Counties than there are in 46 of the 50 states combined. This statistic is 20 years old, so it could be 47 or 48 of the 50 states combined today.

There is a famous picture taken in the mid 1950's from the Hollywood Freeway looking east towards downtown Los Angeles....which was no more than 2 miles away.

At that time, the tallest building was L/A's city hall. Looking at the pic, the smog is so thick that only a bit of the tower is visible.

A similar pic today would show all of downtown LA, the mountain ranges to the north and east.

The L/A basin is surrounded by 3 mountain ranges, north, east and south. The breezes blowing in from the Pacific Ocean blow the smog east.

Back then the only areas not affected by a blanket of thick smog were along the coastline to about 3-5 miles east. Thankfully this is where I lived.

CA's so-called BS emission laws (the first was enacted in 1961) have done wonders to clear the air.

btw: Have you experienced any earthquakes yet?

After the 1994 Northridge earthquake destroyed a friends storage building and most of the NOS parts inside it, he packed up the rest and moved back to Ohio.

Sign on the AZ/CA border installed by private citizens (since removed): WELCOME TO CA .. NOW GO HOME!

When I said BS emission laws I was referring to part of the law that you have to smog anything 1975 or newer.... Most states with smog laws do a 25 year graduating system or something like that. I understand the smog problems I lived in LA for a couple years. As far as the motor I believe the Lincoln was a 72, it only had 42,000 miles but the body went through to many NE Ohio winters and was all rusted out. Oh and that red sticker green sticker **** for dirt bikes is a little extreme to.
