Zf 6 has a higher od, closer to that of the e4OD, which will be even more noticeable with low gears in the rear axle.

ZF6
1st or low 5.79 . that is lower than the gas or diesel zf5 1st gear iirc
6th or OD 0.72 where the zf 5 is .76 or.77

the 6 speed has the slightler lower first and slightly taller OD, and one more gear between 1st and 1:1. and personally i like driving the 6 speed better.
Totally understand, the taller OD is a bonus!

I wondered what happened to this build! LOL! I figured you were still working on it, but I know you stay pretty busy with other projects too. I was thinking the other day, if I could find a set of 550 axles pretty cheap, I would like to try the axle swap on my truck. I need a 550! LOL!

Yeah, she was on the back burner for a little while. I only have so much time and money, cant work on everything all at once! Shop is at a good point for now. Insulated and able to hold heat being a new key feature lol.

I know of a 550 rear up here! a 2wd truck tho. And idk about cheap, re gearing these things is a small fortune. The dana s110 /130 / 135 are a bit more costly to buy r&p than a d80, not to mention 19.5 tires.

at 65 MPH you drop about 130 RPM with 4.11 gears and .72 6th gear ratio with 35 in tires factored in

Injectors showed up Tuesday, and i picked up a dually bed Saturday. Id say its 90-95% condition. solid, some surface rust on a couple cross members. both fenders intact, surprisingly its a NY bed. It may or may not end up on this truck.

That seems to be where dually fenders rot out.

The sheetmetal bed is Boxed right above where the dually fenders bolt on. it collects dirt, stays wet and rots out. Just like single wheel trucks rot in the wheel well

Spent a bit of time cleaning the engine, and i am still not done, The accessory brackets, oil pan etc still need some elbow grease. A lot of little parts in the parts washer, and a bunch of bolts that need to be cleaned and their heads painted. I used the POR15 engine paint on the engine and it seemed to come out pretty good.

kind of clean

I VCs, oil pan, front cover etc were on for the initial degrease. Idk if i had any pictures of that. Not that it matters, because i broke my phone that day anyways lol.

The plan is to get everything cleaned up, paint what's getting painted, I was planning on clear powder coating the accessory brackets and such. Then re assemble, and get all the new parts bolted on so the engine can finally go back in the truck. Hopefully this will all happen in the really near future.
