IH T444E question
Does International still make these for specialty use? I just saw a CAL-FIRE pumper with a T444E emblem on the side and it did not even look close to a twelve or so year old truck. I realize that fire departments have plenty of time to spit polish and shine ( usually ) but this rig looked brand new, especially for one that goes off road for almost all of it's duty time.

The Domestic EPA requirement did not affect the obligation of delivery through contracts.
The 7.3 last DOMESTIC production delivery was June 2003. The first 6.0 was also June 03. So any build date with June may have either.
However, the overseas market and military delivery commitment continued through November 2005.
Among their delivery were 350 4x4 long bed-standard XL chassis for decontamination unit trailers in the Desert. 150 were delivered with the 7.3 and the remaining 200 were 6.0. All were Sand Brown and no insignias.
Tank Automotive Command (TACOM) does NOT permit emblems on Battlefield Tactical Vehicle (BTV) of any kind. TACOM is the ONLY agency who buys mobile property. Non-Tactical Vehicle (NTV) may have manufacturer specific identification.
Most of those have been conveyed to either military bases CONUS or disposed through DRMO to Civilian Agencies or the General Public.
If you saw a Deuce and a Half, it probably had a Multi-Fuel Continental Engine in it. If CALFIRE had it, it is almost certainly Military Surplus (M35 Structural, Chassis) / (C35 Fire Adaptable Unit - used for firefighting "A" and "B" was Structural and "C" Was Airfield Adaptable).
The Deuce and a Half has been superseded for decades. It was manufactured by REO. One of the Unit Guys probably was taking some pride and placed that on there. NONE of those were delivered with anything other than the Continental.

Thomas, I did not mean to imply that it was a military style deuce and a half only that it was the size of one. It was an International truck (grille, logo etc.) of that size, no makeover of anything else. As I mentioned they have a lot of down time in the off season to spit polish stuff but it just looked way to new to be a 12- 15 year old truck. New style grille and such. Don't think a state agency would allow a whole fleet of trucks to be customized, as I have seen several of these (we have had way too many fires up here) just never noticed the T444E badge on the hood before.
Next time I see one parked I will ask the crew how old it really is.

Their platform (International) is the Navistar DT570 w/ the Allison 300 series transmission.
