I fabricated other pieces to attach the other end of the cable to the tailgate and support pieces to attach the junkyard "procured" pivot. IIRC the latches are marine latches.
Careful location of the pieces is very important. Somewhere on an older thread I had additional pix of the installation.
Thanks, I thought the set up looked very much like the ones on my '01 SuperDuty, except they are switched from end to end. I figured that find the parts you have attached to the bed at the local JY and yes the parts stores sell those cables in several lengths. My concern was the mount you have on the tailgate itself.

I also eliminated the chains. I went with the set belt idea and F150 tailgate cables. I also added a bed extender.

A few other pix of the installation. The tailgate connecting point is a bent to 90 degree piece of ss bar stock. There are 1/8 " steel doublers painted body color on the connection points at both the box and the tailgate to take the load of someone or some weight on the tailgate. The pix do not show those well.

Bill, are those 'doublers' on the outside? Also, how big are they and did you weld those on?

Joe,I am feeling a bit guilty about high jacking this thread---

The doublers are outside on both the upper corner of the bedside just forward of the stake pocket and in the upper corners of the tailgate. Both have 90 degree bends in them for rigidity. Unfortunately pix at those corners always seem to come out poorly.\ due to reflection from the paint.

No guilt trip here. Information is good no matter how is gets passed on. That's just my way of thinking.

At Joe's request, a few better pix detail pix. I killed the flash which eliminated the glare. I am no photographer!

Thanks for the pics and ideas. Boy, some of the pics make me feel like me and my substandard truck are in need of so much work. Maybe one day we will be able to sport something similar. You guys have some great looking trucks. Keep posting - I really enjoy seeing the trucks.

Tailgate chain covers

The best tailgate chain covers that I have found were on Etsy. The store is Bravo3Productions. Theirs are made out of heavy-duty canvass that will survive the hot, Florida sun where I live. The plastic, vinyl, rubber ones just don't last. I have a Dodge WC52 and they matched the OD green perfectly.
