Hey all. I'm looking at buying a 6.4. I currently have an obs 7.3 and am looking to upgrade. First of all this won't be an everyday rig. I have a 7.3 idi that I drive every day to work and beat on So I can keep whatever I get nice. I'm wondering how much power these motors can take and still be reliable. I'm not looking for crazy amounts of hp. I'm just talking deletes and a mild tune. It seems that whenever these trucks get hopped up they fall apart. I'm 18 and fresh out of highschool and I'm using this truck to build credit. Again I will have a backup rig but I dont want to have to throw money at it all the time, either. Thanks in advance!

 

These trucks are plenty reliable. Do at least the DPF delete and tune away. Go with a good tuner though. H&S, Spartan, SCT. Nothing else. I daily mine with the 300 HP tune and am over 200k with no issues.

That said anytime you tune something and do more then it was designed for you are limiting life and reliability. So pick one or the other and go with it.

 

Thanks. When I tune it I will be running an sct with gear head tunes. It will be a tow rig more than anything so I will have a mild one for that as well. I don't drive stuff particularly hard but having a 500 hp truck might change that haha
