A/C Small Leak Trouble Shooting Video
An informative, no nonsense, mini tutorial on how to find small A/C system refrigerant leaks.
Of particular interest was plugging the evaporator drain for a while, then unplugging it & monitoring the drain end with a sniffer to get a whiff of refrigerant concentration, that's heavier than air, so its settled in the drain tube while plugged. This way we can check the evaporator for leaks without having to take the dash apart for test probing with a sniffer.
Also of interest, is that the factory installs dye into the system, so we may not have to add any more to get a reading with a UV light. Also adding too much dye can cause system problems, so follow dye mfgr amount recommendations if going that route.
If using dye, seems to me if we'd collect some of the condensate, a UV light should be able to show its presents if the evaporator is leaking. Enjoy the info, I sure did. The Trainer: Where's the hole? | Search Autoparts
