installing headlights

I have a 13 f150 xlt, am trying to install some angel eye halo led projectors. Do I have to use the quick connects or can I use the heavy duty butt connectors?

By quick connects, do you mean like these Quick Splice Connector - 22-18 Gauge ? Those should be fine to use for hooking up the LEDs and Halos. If you want to go for a more heavy duty method, soldering and shrink tubing the wires would give a better connection.

I tried using the butt connectors and the leds and halo rings are not lighting up. What else can it be?

Are you sure you have them hooked into the right wires? A test light is your friend.
